• Culdcept the First - Xbox Review

Culdcept the First (also attributed as Culdcept the First Saturn Tribute) is a very fun game, that does show its age. This is basically a re-issue of the 1997 Sega Saturn game that mashes together deckbuilding (think Magic: The Gathering) and boardgames (such as Monopoly).

  • NBA 2K27 - PlayStation 5 Review

With these annual seasonal renewals of the sports season comes the related video games as well, and the question reviewers such as myself always face is this: Is this year’s game worth purchasing one year after the last one? My answer? Yes, absolutely. NBA fans are going to almost certainly enjoy NBA 2K27.

  • Midnight Moments - PC Steam Review

Midnight Moments is a cozy cyberpunk diorama-building game that is stunning. Unlike games that require you to complete quests or take out assailants or even solve challenging puzzles, this one only requires one thing: imagination.

  • Isle of Reveries - PC Review

Isle of Reveries is a top down 2D action adventure game that made my nostalgia for old school Zelda games flare up really hard. A good blending of puzzle, exploration, and combat, Isle of Reveries is a wonderful title to experience inside and out.

  • Outbound - PC Review

Let me tell you about this cozy game my daughter and I are playing together called Outbound. Now, I've been following this game from the initial Kickstarter back in April 2025 to its full release in May 2026. The best Mother's Day gift for myself and my first ever collector's edition in a physical copy!

  • NHL 27 - PS5 Review

...and I have been playing NHL games since. It didn't matter whether it was EA or another game like 2K in the 2000s; I loved hockey games and still do, but is NHL 27 a step in the right direction?

Dragon Takers - PC Review

Dragon Takers by developer VANGUARD and publisher KEMCOPC(Steam) review written by Richard with a copy provided by the publisher.

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes
Are you in the mood for some old-school RPG flavour with a bit of a new twist? Well then, perhaps I can interest you in Dragon Takers, an RPG with some pretty nostalgic vibes but with a few modern twists.

Dragon Takers is a story about a world of sword and magic. One where the Dragon Army led by Drake Emperor Tiberius leads a campaign of world domination against the humans. A world where humans are granted a type of skill at birth which defines their future. Well, except the main character, of course. Growing up ostracized in a remote village, where only a travelling magician and a childhood friend don't pick on him for his seeming lack of inherent skill, his life is turned upside down when the village is attacked and his childhood friend is kidnapped. Luckily, our hero Helio discovers he has the ability to copy skills from his foes. With the traveling magician Milena, he sets out to rescue the childhood friend, and maybe thwart the Drake Emperor while he's at it.

Dragon Takers plays very similar to the old-school Final Fantasy games, where you will be wandering on a world map, or dungeons, in a 2D top-down environment, and you will get into random turn-based battles as you explore the world. Dragon Takers as a game is incredibly linear though, so there isn't much exploring, at least on the world map, so forward is pretty much the theme of the game. There will be towns and dungeons you come across, and wild monsters to fight and steal the skills from.

When you get into combat, you enter into a turn-based system where your options are: attack, defend, skill, and item. You can see what order enemies and allies will attack in, and what enemies are weak to or resistant to. You can use this info to quickly dispatch your foes. At the bottom of the screen you will view your party members' stats, as well as a list of any buffs or effects they are under. Fun fact, status changes can be doubled up on, which I didn't learn until very late game. If enemies are mid to small sized, they can generally come in groups, where you can only target the enemy grouping, and single target skills or attacks will choose one of the enemies in the group to attack. Lone enemies are obviously fair game. Keep in mind that "enemy groups" are not the same as "all enemies" in this title.

Here is where it gets a little bit different from the standard fare. Based on world lore, everyone has a certain skill they are born with. This dictates what skills your party members will learn in combat based on their level. Helio, however, has to copy skills from the monsters he fights. For Helio, attack carries the same meaning as "attempt to copy a skill". Each enemy that carries a copyable skill has a percent chance to copy it when being normal attacked by Helio. The game handily highlights any skills the enemy may have, if you already have it copied, and what the chance to acquire it is.

Instead of learning skills as he levels, Helio unlocks more skill slots which you can assign the skills you've copied to. This is an interesting take that isn't used all that often, and it sort of speaks to my desire to collect things. Thankfully for both Helio and the player, Helio doesn't lose access to these skills, or have limited uses, and can reassign skills whenever out of combat and you are able to access the menu. Well, if you can navigate the menu.

I'll be real with you here, to be honest, this is one of the worst menu management choices in a game I've seen in quite a long time in the state it is at the time of this review. Is it unmanageable? No, but it's pretty close. The first and biggest issue is that it can be really difficult to visually discern what you have selected. The highlighted background border used to show what you have selected is doing a great job of blending in, which it really shouldn't. There have been many times I've leaned closer to the screen and squinted at it to see if what I selected is what I wanted or not. Honestly, I choose options based on what I think I am choosing rather than what I see half the time.

The other issue with the menu is that it's clunky and cumbersome. Now, you might be wondering "how is a menu cumbersome?". Well, let's go through how you equip new gear. You go into the menu, select items, not equipment, find the gear you think should be what you want equipped, there is a sort function at least, then you select the item and see if any characters can equip it and if it'll give better stats. Yeah, I'm not sure if you can change equipment from the status menu, but I found this way easier. Once you get used to it, it isn't that bad, but boy was I surprised when I first tried to equip a new piece of gear.

Dragon Takers does, however, do a surprisingly good job of keeping you invested despite some of it's setbacks in user interface. There are usually a few magic circles littered throughout areas you explore, providing a full heal at no expense and of infinite uses. This is quite handy when trying to farm skills off enemies, as some hit rather hard and only have a ten percent chance of giving up the skill, meaning you'll take a beating while trying to get their skills. There will also be treasure chests with gear, which also occasionally drops from enemies, with which to outfit your party.

Also, while I don't want to give spoilers for the storyline, I will say that Dragon Takers does a good job of lampshading a lot of standard tropes in fantasy games. Yeah, the plot is cheesy and corny and cliche a lot of the time, but it also avoids the pitfalls that standard fantasy writing usually falls into. For example, at the very beginning of the game, Helio wants to immediately charge after the enemy who had just recently kicked his butt in order to get his friend back. Milena essentially calls him an idiot for thinking he stands a chance, and says he needs to at least train and copy some better skills before he has even a chance. He very promptly agrees and essentially says "yeah, you're right. That was real dumb of me". He might not be exactly the brightest bulb, but he certainly has the awareness to realize when confidence and headstrongness isn't gonna get the job done.

Another aspect that is rather endearing of Dragon Takers is the aesthetic that has been chosen. While the field sprites and art are very old-school reminiscent, the character portraits, for both enemies and allies, are actually dynamic, which you don't see a lot of. They move and sway, which you can see in full body shots of the characters, or on the enemies in combat. The music direction is also pretty good, which is always a plus when you're gonna be hearing the battle themes a lot.

Overall, Dragon Takers gives a very nostalgic feeling of older RPGs, made in an RPG Maker style, but with it's own share of interesting aspects. While it may not be super long, and the user interface is rather rough, there is a lot to like, whether it be a well implemented combat system, solid graphic design, or a good sound direction. While the storyline can be quite cliche, it also has it's moments where it surprised me and were a good diversion from the usual plot points you would see in games like this. I would highly recommend checking out Dragon Takers if you're looking to live some of that original Final Fantasy type feeling.

Score: 8 / 10

Most Wanted Remakes or Remasters - Part 3 - Gaming Thoughts

This is the third and last of our articles in this series. This is a gathering of the top games in everyone's wish list - and more staff members chipped in than ever on this series. So let's wrap this up!

Susan

MechCommander

I would LOVE for MechCommander to be remastered. While I often am not a huge fan of reskinning a game, MechCommander was a turn based tactical game like Battletech that I fell in love with. I spent hours outfitting my mechs and trying to complete all of the objectives. Often, my brother would beat mom and I in succeeding at the mission. I remember one particular one all too well... Anyways, the graphics are a little dated if you were to look at it now, but I'd love to have more mech based tactics games because it had a single player campaign mode as well as a multiplayer mode! So, my mom, brother, and I used to play a crap ton of it back in the late 90s. What's also cool about MechCommander is that it was made by FASA Studio who developed games from 1994 until 2007, and made MechCommander 1 and 2 as well as MechWarrior 4, MechAssault, and in its final year, Shadowrun on Windows and Xbox 360. After that, there weren't many mech based tactics games that really grabbed me other than BattleTech. Honestly, it would be great if we could have MechCommander back - so long as it had both the single and multiplayer features.

Robert

Final Fantasy VII

You read that right... I'd like to see Final Fantasy VII remastered. Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy VII Remake is fantastic but that's not what I'm hoping for. A part of the magic of Final Fantasy VII was in its stellar-for-the-time graphics. The Remake doesn't preserve that piece of gaming history (especially because Square was sued and lost for false advertisement) and I'd love to see Cloud's pointy feet in glorious 4k. The pre-renderered backgrounds being re-rendered at modern resolutions would, to me, present some of the best-looking backgrounds in gaming. A simple, straight, 4k remastering of the original content would be such a dream come true that I'd be happy to purchase it all over again. Final Fantasy VII was magical; why not preserve that?

Valerie

Descent

This awesome first of its kind 3D 360 degree space first person shooter I really loved to play, and no I have not beaten it cuz of life, ranks as my number one for a remake. Why? Because I would have loved to save my progress and continue on to the end! The story grabbed me from the first and the 3D 360 degree play kept me on my toes all through the levels I got through. Also, I would love to have a crack at the spiritual successor Overlord, but that will have to wait.

Nick

Dragon Force

During a time when I was hooked on turn-based strategy games, Dragon Force stood out as a real-time strategy game that kept me glued to the Sega Saturn. With one of 8 different leaders you can select from, there's a decent amount of replay value to be had here. The RPG elements mixed wonderfully with the strategy elements, and all of it was wrapped up in one of the better stories of the time period. As a bonus? How about bringing over the sequel, which I never experienced, because it was only released in Japan at the time.

Pierre-Yves

The Legend of Dragoon

But didn't this just drop on the PSN last year? Yes. It did. With a few quality of life improvements in the form of emulation, this classic was made accessible on modern day systems.

But that's not a remake. And while I don't necessarily NEED 4K and 60fps, we all know we want it. But more than that, I would hope for a Final Fantasy Remake and Rebirth treatment. Take what was originally available and expand on it.

The Legend of Dragoon for me was one of the best PS1 entries. It still holds up rather well all things considered. It had a good story of love, loss, and friendship. It also had a great combat system that could be easily refined for modern input speeds. And for the time? The graphics weren't bad either.

Best part? Nigel, he cut off my head. Did you see that?! He cut off my head!!

Mike

Tenchu

“Tenchu” the stealth assassin mechanics stood out as one of a kind title. With it's only competition in the unique genre being the early Hitman franchise, Tenchu being remade would spark the love and desire of many who missed the opportunity to dive into the franchise of stealth/action adventure. If they fixed the then buggy and at times cumbersome camera controls, it would rival the likes of “Ghosts of Tsushima” and “Sekiro Shadows Die Twice”

Jim

Xenosaga 1-3

The Xenosaga trilogy to me is a perfect fit for a remaster. These three great RPGs are getting hard and expensive for the PS2. I remember playing the first game and seeing the cutscenes in it and being amazed at how long some of them were. It felt like you would play a little and then watch for 30 minutes! I was young so it was probably a lot less than that 30 minutes, but I love games like that. Story-heavy games are my favorite whether it is RPGs or not. Xenosaga deserves more love from Bandai Namco.

Hamza

Need For Speed II

We'll call this the most conventional of my picks. Originally released in 1997, I stand by the opinion that NFS II remains one of the top installments in this long-running franchise. It’s still a great-looking game, even by modern standards—though the jagged car models, low-res skyboxes, and outdated FMV sequences could definitely benefit from a 4K remaster. Imagine Monolithic Studios and North Country—my favorite tracks—redone with a modern engine.

Richard

The Xenosaga trilogy and Xenogears, by extension

The Xenosaga trilogy is probably the first major non-mainstream JRPG I ever played. I'd love to see it where the second game wasn't handed off to a different department that disregarded the notes and plans from the original department. Replete with an amazing soundtrack, an incredibly interesting story and characters, and a really neat twist to the typical turn-based combat system. I would absolutely love to see a remake of this series.

Hayden

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

Going in a totally different direction (as I do), I give you "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" (1991). This was the last in a trilogy of WW2 flight sim games from LucasFilm, and took on a very broad scope for its time, allowing the player to control either the Allied or German air campaigns in the war, including a limited set of strategic decisions related to production. Add in a character-developing tour system, a variety of real (and experimental) aircraft types, and you have a 4.5/5 star game at the time of its release.

These days, I don't see much press for entries in the standalone war flight sim market - though perhaps I'm just blind to it - and I'd really like to see what current tech and graphics could do for this classic. Who needs War Thunder when you could have the entire war without worrying about connection lag or weird tier balancing choices?

Most Wanted Remakes or Remasters - Part 2 - Gaming Thoughts

Today's articles touch on the games that didn't quite top anyone's list - but came close. What would be the next game or set of games we'd love to see get the remake or remaster treatment? Read on!

Hayden

Wing Commander

It spawned one of the early heavyweight IPs, saw massive popularity, half a dozen sequels/spin-offs and one of the earliest video game to movie adaptations I can remember.

Call me a sucker for my single player flight sims, but that one has to be up there too.

Mike

Road Rash

“Road Rash” the early take on vehicular combat before the infamous “Twisted Metal”, Road Rash put you on your motorcycle of choice. Pitting you against other rival gangs and factions in a race to the finish over the different landscapes of the world with all the violence and carnage of a Mad Max film. Swinging weapons to get ahead and reaching breakneck speeds with upgrades purchased with every profitable win while dodging the law, oncoming traffic, wildlife, and at times your friends in the same death style race.

Despite the N64's attempt to breathe life back into the franchise, the closest fans have gotten to a proper remake is “Road Redemption” by Tripwire Interactive.

Hamza

Watchmen: The End is Nigh

We'll call this my obscure choice, but this title originally released in 2009. Fun fact: this game hit the shelves five months before Batman: Arkham Asylum, the title that set the gold standard for superhero video games. Since Watchmen is also a WB property, why not let it benefit from the gameplay model perfected by the Arkham series? Maybe even have Rocksteady Studios take a crack at it? Imagine Rorschach and Nite Owl II rendered with the same finesse as the Dark Knight.

Valerie

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

This is an RTS game that was cute and fun with the voices and manageable actions to get your base set up before going on the attack. This game has had a remaster, but I would love a remake with more of the lore found in this world of orcs and humans.

Who started the war? Who is king? From the Blizzard page: "Azeroth, land of magic, mystery, and legendary heroes, is beset by the orcish invaders. Take up arms for your king and defend the realm, or lead the Horde on their bloodthirsty conquest. Command the battlefield, outflank your enemies, and gain victory… or suffer crushing defeat and be forgotten forever. The battle for Azeroth begins today!"

Pierre-Yves

Legend of Legaia

This is another classic that I would love to have a remake of, or even a reboot of the series. I've yet to play Legaia 2: Duel Saga, it's in my backlog, but the original? It was good.

Mixing both turned based RPG elements and fighting game combos, the Legend of Legaia was an oddity that I fell in love with. Trying to prevent, you guessed it, the end of the world from a Stephen King's Mist like scenario, three martial artists band together with the use of their powers.

Richard

Deception / Trapt / Kagero

Call it whatever you recognize it as, but the deception series, knows as Kagero in Japan, is something I've always loved. My first experience was with the second game in the series that miraculously managed to make it to North America under the title Trapt. A series where you set up traps in a mansion, and activate them to eliminate all intruders, the Deception series was pretty dear to me. I remember me and my friends staying up late trying to beat the surprisingly hard final boss as we slaughtered our way through evil knights and poor peasants alike.

Jim

Suikoden 3-5 and Tactics

I love the Suikoden games and one of my most anticipated games of 2025 is the remaster of 1 and 2. Suikoden 2 is my all-time favorite game even though the PS2-era games are still all great in their own right. Suikoden 3 has one of the best opening videos in that series, and Suikoden 4 although not as popular as the others was a solid experience. And then there's Suikoden 5, the best of the PS2 Suikoden games. I would also like to see Suikoden Tactics as it's a part of Suikoden 4's storyline and is a great strategy RPG.

Nick

Persona 1 & 2

In part, this was heavily fueled by how outstanding the Persona 3 Reload release was, and how popular its reception was. This could at some point be an outdated take, but I'm going to put it here anyways. The first Persona absolutely hooked me with it's interesting mix of demons & real-world scenarios, creating a very new and refreshing story line. I never ever played the sequel, but from what I have read, Persona 2 only doubled down on these elements, with a more memorable cast of characters and narrative. These two games sure seem ripe for the Reload treatment for modern audiences.

Now, why could this become an outdated take? There have been insider rumors that these are going to get remasters at some point in the near future, but as of the writing of this, nothing has been officially announced yet.

Kletka - PC Review

Kletka by developer and publishers Callback and In404PC(Steam) review written by Mike with a purchased copy.

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

“Today's adventure destination, is Down”

Kletka opens with a simple and easy to understand premise: gather together with your crew of inmates or solo and venture into the obscure world below.

My initial thought was the game paid some homage to other titles such as “Content Warning” or the wildly popular “Lethal Company” in it's “explore, loot, survive” construct, but there are some unique elements that make this horror game veer into the supernatural and often times surreal. You are a criminal condemned to the Kletka, a man-eating elevator that travels through a supernatural gigacomplex floor by floor. Can you survive the horrors of the complex, or will your sins catch up to you?

When you enter the Elevator from your beginning zone, things are amiss immediately upon noticing the gaping maw installed on the lift's ceiling. This will be an important feature throughout your journey downward, being both an asset and a liability depending on your actions. Where other dungeon crawling expeditions have you gathering coins and gems for trade, Kletka keeps things on brand with it's nod to recycling as you will be gathering empty green bottles to use in various manners throughout the unexplored levels as a form of currency.

The corridors encountered can range anywhere from a full hallway filled with bright lights and apartment dwellings housing unspoken layouts of long forgotten residents, to unspeakable and often times indescribable encounters where reality itself is warped in such ways that the development team had a real field day twisting ones expectations. Gravity may not apply, the walls may not be walls, or the entrance that you had once known could be nonexistent. On top of all the wondrous ways this environment alters one's concept of reality, it throws enemies and dangers along the way to keep you on edge at every turn and twist.

Some floors you stop on may entice you to gather every small item on hand ranging from upgrades and tools to basic necessities such as backpacks and fuel, only to render your faulty sense of safety obsolete as a cascade of wall worms burrow into you and your team. Perhaps the power for the lights will turn off spontaneously as an alarm hearkens throughout the halls, providing minimal warning that the area is compromised and soon to be the grave for all not aboard the elevator, or maybe it will consist of a nightmarish loom enveloped in shadow and paranoid whispers misleading you to seek a non-corporeal treasure that disintegrates into dust when you grab onto it.

The elevator, or “Kletka” has four primary components to it's function:

The Engine controls the speed and break of the lift for you and your team to traverse safely to the next floor. This can be repaired and tinkered with by wrenches or by hand, at the cost of electrical shock and injury to the player. Wrenches are strongly suggested.

The Fuel tank can be refilled with Gas canisters found among the numerous floors and levels. If you run out of fuel, feeding Kletka raw meat will add fuel to continue the adventure downwards. There are optional things you may feed Kletka and it might provide you with more fuel. The living rodents scurrying around different halls might provide a good snack if all other options have been exhausted, or perhaps a fallen enemy, perhaps a fallen comrade? Get creative.

The Scanner will give you and your teammates a rough idea of what conditions plague the floor you have stopped on and what goodies you may find strewn amid the rooms and corridors. Be wary of the warnings it gives you as it may mean certain doom for everyone as the higher risk doesn't always lead to higher rewards.

The Kletka. This creature is simply known as Kletka. It eats what you feed it and stores various tools as well as gives back to the exploration team in different surprising ways. I've yet to anger the Kletka or let it go hungry, maybe there is something else hidden in it's purpose?

With the controls ranging from floating, to swift, slippery to wobbly, the character movement's are affected by certain situations throughout the adventure. Thankfully the basic conditions of the camera control are preset in a way that will not induce motion sickness in it's players. Smooth and clean response time with every action taken. Some perks will cause your player to jump higher or take less damage, some may just have you consuming raw meat for added health bonuses.

Inventory management is simple and tidy. The user interface is crisp, clean and simplified enough to keep to the point, not bombarding the players with copious amounts of instructions as a clipboard explains the gist of one's journey ahead and keeps things under a shroud of “what if I did this...” appeal. Kletka takes a formula and molds something fresh around it, filling up the void and giving players a new experience on every descent into the many levels below. If you are a solo adventurer or gather together up to 3 friends to explore with you, there will be stories to be shared and moments to be had in every stop along the way to your destination. Replay-ability is a very big feature in this title.

Audio is fantastic as you find cassette tapes hidden on various floors. Maybe if you are lucky you will find the famous “Flight of the Bumblebees” which has become a classical tune to dance to in the descent. Proximity chat has a very pleasing echo effect in large chambers and smaller corridors, making the world feel that much more fleshed out level after level.

I've no grievances save the exception my foolish desire and falling to my own greed. Wandering far into a maze without weapons, or stepping carelessly into a beartrap amid the shadows of a dark room. The pricepoint is low, the polygons are too. Kletka lands a solid 9.

Score: 9 / 10

Most Wanted Remakes or Remasters - Part 1 - Gaming Thoughts

With so many games getting fantastic remakes over the last few years (Final Fantasy 7, Persona 3 Reload, The Last of Us, etc), it got some of us on the team asking: what would be the next game or set of games we'd love to see get the remake or remaster treatment? We put a quick set of guidelines to the question:

- The game has to be older than a decade
- Hasn't had a remake / remaster in the last decade
- We agreed we could bundle games (similar to how people view the Pixel Remake of the Final Fantasy games as part of our wish lists)
- Don't pick something that has been announced as forthcoming
- Pick up to 3 titles (so you'll see the number of participants go up as we move from last to first place in our list of desired titles)

That was it - but of course, there's always deviations from the expected and unexpected takes from the team. We wound up with some pretty great internal conversations around it in our team's Discord channel. Let us know if there's anything you wish you could see remade as well!

We will be posting these over the week in a trio of articles, leading up to our team's most desired remakes. So let's start off with some of the ones that barely made the cut or honorable mentions.

Narrative Adventure Game 'Threefold Recital' Releasing on January 14th!

December 17th, 2024 | Developed by Everscape Games and published by indienova, the narrative-driven adventure game Threefold Recital is officially set to release on January 14, 2025, and will be priced at $14.99 USD, with a 10% launch discount for the first two weeks.

Inspired by folklore and strange tales in ancient China, Threefold Recital creates an oriental fantasy realm inhabited by humans, beastlings, and majestic dragons. After a golden age spanning thousands of years, the bustling metropolis of Bluescales now faces tumultuous times. Here, magic and technology coexist, complicating social governance. To further stir the pot, the secret art behind ancient miracles—presumed long lost—is resurfacing. Beneath the city's clamor, a storm unlike any other is quietly brewing...

A long, long time ago, there lived a wolf, a fox, and a snake. But these weren’t just your ordinary wild animals. They were very patient and wise, and after a lot of hard work, they gained human form and became "beastlings", as they liked to call themselves. Now, let's meet our heroes:

  • Triratna, the wolf-turned-monk, is able to see and sever karma lines—the threads of cause and effect tying everything together.
  • Taiqing, the fox-turned-priest, is an expert of transmuting substances and other Daoist spells.
  • Transia, the snake-turned-artist, is gifted with the ability to enter paintings and alter people's appearances.

Lead three heroes, each with a unique ability, through a maze of curious events and bust the conspiracy behind it all. As you progress, three separate storylines will flow into one. Be the all-seeing eye and the guiding hand, switch perspectives, combine their powers to overcome obstacles and solve mysteries. The fate of Bluescales is depending on you.

The game offers an estimated 10-15 hours of gameplay. Its animations are entirely hand-drawn frame by frame, vividly bringing the characters to life. By switching perspectives, players can piece together the full narrative, gaining insight into the interconnected stories. For those less skilled in puzzles, the game includes dynamic difficulty adjustments and a puzzle-skip option, with many puzzles offering multiple solutions, encouraging exploration and creativity.

Previously, Threefold Recital debuted during the Steam Next Fest, showcasing its first official trailer and a playable demo. The demo, which included the prologue and Triratna’s chapter (about one hour of gameplay), received widespread praise from players. With the release date now set, anticipation for the full version continues to grow.

On January 14, 2025, Threefold Recital invites players to embody these extraordinary beastlings protagonists, delve into this oriental fantasy realm, unravel its mysteries, and experience the charm of a unique narrative adventure.

    Memorable Music in Gaming #60

Happy New Year, dear viewers! What better way to kick off the year than with a collection of fantastic minimalist compositions? Sit back, enjoy, and have a wonderful year ahead.

Mass Effect 2 | PC | Uncharted Worlds

The Mass Effect series boasts one of the best sci-fi soundtracks ever composed. If classic sci-fi novels came with their own background music, I’d imagine it sounding exactly like this.

I love the optimistic and curious nature of this track—it makes exploration feel intellectual rather than intimidating.

    Uncharted Worlds

    Celeste | PC | Quiet & Falling

If the real world sounded like this, I’d go out every day.

[Official] Celeste Original Soundtrack - 11 - Quiet and Falling

    Siren: New Translation | PS3 |  Lament

I haven’t played this game yet, but there’s something deeply wistful and melancholic about this track. The occasional voice cracks only enhance its haunting, cerebral atmosphere.

If you told me this was from a Suicide album, I’d believe you.

Lament - Siren: New Translation OST

Silent Hill 2 | PC | White Noiz

Akira Yamaoka returns with yet another minimalistic masterpiece. Who would’ve thought a few sustained notes could send you spiraling into a stream of consciousness?

    White Noiz

Mass Effect | PC | Presidium

We started this list with Mass Effect, so why not bring it full circle? Longtime Chalgyr.com readers may remember that Mr. Nick—honorable founder of the site—wrote about Presidium way back in entry #33 of this series.

I don’t have much to add except that this is yet another quintessential sci-fi music gem.
