Platformer ‘Kitsune Zero’ Rushes to Steam on September 12th

SAN FRANCISCO – August 11, 2022 –
Kitsune Zerothe prequel to Kitsune Tails, the platformer styled after beloved classics and steeped in Japanese mythology while featuring diverse relationships, dashes to Steam on Monday, September 12. Experience a new story and 24 new levels in this reimagining of/expansion to Super Bernie World, the electoral activism platformer downloaded by more than 350,000 voters at the ballot box.

Created by developer Kitsune Games (MidBoss, Ultra Hat Dimension, Super Bernie World) in collaboration with publisher MidBoss™ (2064: Read Only Memories), revisit the original four worlds of Super Bernie World, now set in the Kitsune Tails universe. Experience new story sequences and voice acting from a cast including Michele Knotz, the voice of Misty, May, and Jessie from the English dub of the Pokemon anime. Sean Chiplock, whose credits include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Genshin Impact, Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers, and dozens more beloved anime and video game titles, serves as Kitsune Zero’s narrator.

Tackle eight new worlds exclusive to the DLC, featuring new challenges and enemies like Edo soldiers ready to chase down foxy protagonist Yumi on sight. Conquer the new hard mode, featuring enemies zooming around at high speed. Enjoy the new quality of life features like jump buffering and continuing from any stage.

Dash, leap over, and stomp ghostlike creatures inspired by Japanese folklore standing in Yumi’s way. Collect powerups throughout each countryside and castle to grow in size, throw fireballs, and become temporarily invincible in this homage to the early eight-bit platformers that defined the genre for decades to come. Discover secret bonus worlds, overcome faster enemies in Hard Mode, and hop along to infectious, smile-inducing new music.

Defeat a sinister samurai gang to stop the clan’s war of conquest. Hear the cries of the local onmyouji, a wizardly bureaucrat assigned to keep the peace, and end the magical pact the samurai have with vengeful spirits. Only Yumi can break the alliance and restore peace… and maybe get to go on a date for her trouble. Gather the necessary ingredients to stop the dark pact’s magic and the leader of the samurai clan once and for all. But beware, for a damsel, err, dashing gentleman in distress might need rescuing!

Kitsune Zero sets the stage for the upcoming Kitsune Tails, launching next year. Young, inexperienced fox-human hybrid Yuzu (voiced by Kira Buckland, the voice of NieR: Automata’s 2B) must save her love interest from a dire fate and contend with a jealous member of kitsune nobility. Unlock powers in the form of cute outfits across six delightful worlds crafted out of a deep love of retro platformers.

Kitsune Zero allows us to give fans an early taste of the Kitsune Tails world and expand on the platforming people loved in Super Bernie World,” said Eniko Fox, co-founder, Kitsune Games. “Speedrunners, know that we made sure that Kitsune Zero remains compatible with Super Bernie World any% speedruns, so it’s time to lower those times and start submitting to marathons!”

Kitsune Zero will be available for $4.99 USD as paid downloadable content for Super Bernie World on Steam and standalone on itch.ioKitsune Tails will release in 2023 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and Windows PC and Linux via Steam and itch.io

SAN FRANCISCO – June 8, 2021
– Season of Pride 2021, the third annual streaming event celebrating LGBTQ+ diversity in gaming, will promote inclusivity and love from 9:00 a.m. to midnight PT Thursday, July 1 through Saturday, July 31, 2021. Presented by MidBoss, developer of inclusive cyberpunk adventure 2064: Read Only Memories, Season of Pride will be hosted on the MidBoss Twitch Channel while also making appearances on the Twitch homepage throughout the month.

A Steam sale supporting queer games and developers with discounts up to 80% off on fan-favorite LGBTQ+ titles as well as information on upcoming ones will run ahead of Season of Pride from tomorrow, June 9, through Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

Rebranded from Summer of Pride to Season of Pride for greater worldwide inclusivity, the event will once again seek to raise funds for life-changing LGBTQ+ charities Trans Lifeline, Trevor Project, and GaymerX. These content creators and others will play games with an inclusive and thoughtful representation of queer characters, themes, and stories including AAA titles like Dead by Daylight and The Sims 4 as well as beloved indie offerings like Sayonara Wild Hearts, Later Daters, Arcade Spirits, Monster Prom, Gone Home, Kitty Powers' Love Life, and many more.

“Season of Pride brings together queer gamers from all over the world to celebrate the impact good LGBTQ+ representation in our hobby can have, be it on players looking to see themselves in games or through empathy to help normalize queer life,” said Cade Peterson, CEO of MidBoss. “The rebranding reflects the fact that June isn’t pride month all over the world, nor is it summer everywhere. We want all our gayming fellows to feel welcome at Season of Pride.”

The full schedule and details about participating games and streamers will be revealed on the Season of Pride website in the coming weeks. Join the festivities via the MidBoss Twitch Channel.

Read Only Memories Expands to Print in December!

SAN FRANCISCO – Nov. 14, 2019 – Read Only Memories’ cyberpunk world, popularized by the narrative adventure 2064: Read Only Memories which has been downloaded by more than 1 million gamers, expands to print next month. MidBoss, together with IDW Publishing, will bring issue #1 of a monthly four-issue comic series to stores on Dec. 18, 2019.

Taking place in the years after 2064: Read Only Memories, the comic series focuses on franchise mainstay Lexi Rivers. Featured as a detective at the Neo-San Francisco Police Department in 2064, she will appear again in the upcoming Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER, which takes place after the comics.

Now a private investigator, Lexi tracks down a robot’s missing lover in a case taking her through the dangerous beaches of Santa Cruz, California. Worlds apart from the familiar streets of Neo-San Francisco, Read Only Memories issue #1 tackles new themes and questions in a hopeful cyberpunk future populated by sapient AI and genetically modified humans living under the giant thumbs of megacorporations embroiled in a fight for supremacy.

The series features art from Stefano Simeone, who has collaborated with iconic comic publishers including Disney, Dark Horse, and Boom! Studios. Together with writer Sina Grace, a veteran whose works include Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men and Iceman, they form a dynamic team to expand the vibrant setting of Read Only Memories to a whole new format.

IDW Publishing adds Read Only Memories to its roster of licensed property adaptations including Sonic the Hedgehog, Transformers, Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Star Wars.

“IDW, Sina, and Stefano have put their hearts and souls into this limited-series, and the result is an amazing extension of the Read Only Memories universe,” said Cade Peterson, CEO of MidBoss. “The depth of character expression offered by comics is the perfect way for fans of 2064 to learn more about Lexi, while providing a compelling introduction to the cyberpunk universe for newcomers.”

Read Only Memories Issue #1 will be available for purchase at local comic stores, and digital copies can be found online at Comixology. The second of the four issues will be available in January 2020. The trade paperback collecting all four issues in one volume is available for pre-order from online bookstores.
