• Lunar Remastered Collection – Xbox Review

Lunar Remastered Collection is one of the better recent remasters I’ve encountered, for a variety of reasons. While some nits could be picked here...

  • Peglin – Xbox Review

Peglin is a fascinating blend of gaming elements that is surprisingly addicting, even if I do find myself enjoying it most in relatively short bursts. Sometimes when you mix game types, you wind up with diluted elements that don’t really shine, but that is not the case with Peglin.

  • Microtopia - PC Review

Microtopia is a neat game where players grow a new kind of colony, the kind that is run by robotic ants. Now if an automation game where you get to control robotic ants isn't an interesting one, you've been living under a rock.

  • Death End Re;Quest: Code Z - PS5 Review

What would you do if you could witness your own death? To be able to try again after perishing? How would you act knowing where your Dead End leads? Well, welcome to the world of Death End Re;Quest Code: Z, the third major installment in the Death End Re;Quest series.

  • Space Engineers 2 - PC Preview

Keen Software House (Keen) has recently launched Space Engineers 2 (SE2) into early access with a polished communication campaign featuring YouTube influencer previews, snappy teasers and a road map using the ‘vertical slice’ concept to show the intended path between initial early access availability and final release.

  • Ever 17: The Out of Infinity - Nintendo Switch Review

I've got a good one for ya! An awkward teen, an amnesiac kid, a grumpy Lolita, a bratty child (not really), a hacker, an oblivious employee and an AI walk into an underwater bio-dome---

  • ZPF - PC Preview

ZPF is a new shoot-'em-up game that looks, sounds and plays like a Sega Genesis game. The demo I played was short with three levels and three different heroes (ships) each with their own play style.

  • Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land - PS5 Review

If there's one series that keeps me excited for every new release, it's Gust's Atelier series. As much as things change over the years, the core staple of the series remains the same. It's about alchemy...

  • Rise of the Ronin - PC Review

Set in the Bakumatsu-era in Japan, Rise of the Ronin follows the path of a Veiled Edge, a unique paired swordsmen's technique where you play one half of a pair of sword-slinging ronin called Blade Twins.

Happy New Year!

Out with 2011 and in with 2012!

2011 was a big year for video games. The number of blockbuster titles over the last few months alone was staggering. Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, Infamous 2, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Halo: Anniversary and a lot more. Some of these I have had a chance to play, others will have to wait. For me one of the biggest gaming developments personally was getting to play PC games for the first time in years due to my wife having gotten me a good PC a little over a year ago. I was introduced to Steam, I took an active role in more gaming blogs and even started to work on mine again as a result.

Not everything was rosy in gaming of course. Nintendo made some missteps that stunted what should have been a successful 3DS launch. They also neglected the Wii in favor of the Wii U, in no small part alienating some of their most loyal fans.

Sony had its issues with hackers taking down the PlayStation Network and potentially compromising user account information. Steam saw their system get attacked as well - as did the forums of several other video game developers.

There is a lot to look forward to in 2012 as well. The Playstation Vita is a big one for me, though the price of the memory sticks is a cause for disappointment. Will the Wii U be released this year then? Are we going to see glimpses of the next generation of Microsoft and Sony systems? There are a lot of hotly anticipated games coming up as well - Tomb Raider and Mass Effect 3 being of particularly high interest for me.

What about you? Any particularly good or bad memories in gaming for you last year? Anything in particular you are really looking forward to in 2012?

What about in the world of non-gaming? I have a fairly crazy potential year ahead of me, with some potential work changes, my kids getting older and hitting specific ages of significance - it's going to be an interesting 2012 I suspect.

Wishing you all a happy, safe New Year!

Quick Bioshock reference above. Sure, the year's wrong, but it's the thought that counts. :)
