Similar to my last Beeps and Beers article, this one is going to span a few days and a variety of beers. The game? Grand Kingdom. To say that this game has sucked me in would be an understatement. As of last night when I wrote this, my playtime was nearing four days. Yikes. Well, a lot of that came last weekend when it was hot, sticky and generally uncomfortable out and I decided to settle in and play the game while sipping at a quartet of IPAs from Arcadia Ales that my wife had picked up for me in a twelve pack variety box. So what could go wrong with a game that requires lots of strategic thinking while tipping back a few beers? While I ask that question sarcastically - the actual answer might be surprising: not much can go wrong at all. I had a great weekend combining the two.

Grand Kingdom and Arcadia Ales IPA Variety Pack (Part 1) - Beeps and Beers

Zero Time Dilemma - PS Vita Review
June 28, 2016Aksys Games, CGRreview, Chime, PS Vita, Sony PlayStation Vita, Spike Chunsoft, Zero Time Delimma
Sometimes a game is so good, so gripping, that you simply do not want to put it down. Zero Time Dilemma is a fantastic conclusion to a series of great games that works perfectly on a handheld system. Why? Because I was holding it in my hands, nose close to the screen almost like I was carefully cradling a good book while I anxiously waited for the next scene to unfold much as I would turn a page in anticipation.
Severed - PS Vita Review
Just one glance at the visuals, and I was immediately reminded of DrinkBox Studios' outstanding Guacamelee! The same distinctive visual style including vibrant use of color just leaps off of the Vita screen. However, as great as Guacamelee! was, it never really felt unique. There are a handful of other games similar to Severed, but this title stands out for several reasons of its own.
Ray Gigant - PS Vita Review
May 02, 2016actill llc., Bandai Namco Games, CGRreview, Experience Inc., PS Vita, RAY GIGANT, Sony PlayStation Vita
When it comes to dungeon crawling RPGs, few developers seem to 'get it' the way Experience Inc does. This is not always the most approachable of genres, but despite an almost painfully long and slow introduction, Ray Gigant quickly establishes itself with an interesting world and mechanics that are both deep but also well enough developed that this title could serve as a great entry point to those who have not given dungeon crawlers a try yet.
Stranger of Sword City - PS Vita Review
April 13, 2016CGRreview, Experience Inc., NIS America, review, Sony PlayStation Vita, Stranger of Sword City, vita
Stranger of Sword City does not reinvent the RPG crawler genre, but it really does do a good job in mixing up the story and adding some mechanics that generally are not found in titles like this. In the end, the experience is a rewarding one and if you have been on the fence about the dungeon crawling genre in the past, this title might just be the one to try and see if it cannot win you over.
Trillion: God of Destruction - PS Vita Review
April 01, 2016CGRreview, Compile Heart, idea factory, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita, Trillion: God of Destruction
Trillion: God of Destruction is Compile Heart and Idea Factory’s newest JRPG for the Vita, and it’s dirty. Really dirty. It isn’t bad, or poorly written, and the gameplay is smoother than I was honestly expecting. So why is it so dirty? Because the game is a giant exercise in sacrifice, and it makes you feel like a horrible, horrible person.
Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky - PS Vita Review
January 20, 2016Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky, Gust, Koei Tecmo Games, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita
Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky brings the 2013 RPG title to the PlayStation Vita, as has been the habit of the series for some time. It is essentially the same game, just with additional downloadable content that brings the popular series to a portable platform where it performs wonderfully. We have long been fans of this game series, and while those who played it on the PlayStation 3 might not have enough reason to come back to it, it is absolutely worth your time if you missed it initially.
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires - PS Vita Review
There is literally no shortage of love for the Warriors series here at CGR. Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires for the PlayStation 4 was a solid entry with Nick back in March and it has now made its way over the PlayStation Vita. With a solid blend of mechanics that we’ve come to love, the Empires label adds in Politics and Strategies in order to change up the style of play making it worthy to stand among its brethren without worry of not measuring up.
Sword Art Online: Lost Song - PS Vita Review
November 25, 2015Artdink, Bandai Namco Games, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita, Sword Art Online: Lost Song
We have been following Sword Art Online: Lost Song for some time now, and I am happy to say that while the game has some rough edges here and there, it is an enjoyable experience that should appeal to fans of the anime, but also serve as a good entry point to newcomers.
SUPERBEAT: XONiC - PS Vita Review
November 05, 2015atlus, Nurijoy, PM Studios Inc., PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita, SUPERBEAT: XONiC
The DJ Max games helped to put Nurijoy on the map with rhythm fans in the past, and SUPERBEAT: XONiC is an enjoyable addition to the genre. Everything from the fun songs to the colorful visuals that create an experience that is immediately familiar, but still fresh enough to be entertaining.
Norn9: Var Commons - PS Vita Review
The recent deluge of visual novels has me very excited. It is not necessarily one of my favorite genres, but it has been so under represented here in the west for far too long. Norn 9: Var Commons was actually a PSP title that never made its way over here, but now it finds new life on the PlayStation Vita, and the game works wonderfully.
Corpse Party: Blood Drive - PS Vita Review
Corpse Party: Blood Drive is one of those titles that will undoubtedly get sold short because of its middling visuals and sometimes slow pacing. However, that would be selling short the generally excellent writing and sense of tension that permeates the atmosphere throughout.
Persona 4: Dancing All Night - PS Vita Review
October 23, 2015atlus, Dingo Inc., Persona 4: Dancing All Night, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita
Many were skeptical when Persona 4: Dancing All Night was announced. Without a doubt, Persona 4 has proven to be the most marketable game in the long-running series to date, as evidenced by some of the chances taken with it. The original game was a hit (and awesome). However, Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax proved that the likable cast of characters could carry the series beyond just its RPG roots. Dancing All Night simply reinforces that notion.
Code: Realize - Guardian of Rebirth - PS Vita Review
October 21, 2015Aksys Games, Code: Realize - Guardian of Rebirth, Otomate, PS Vita Review, Sony PlayStation Vita
Otome adventures are not the most popular of titles here in the US at this point, but we have seen more chances being taken by publishers of late, and I feel we are better for it. More options to choose from is a good thing, and the PlayStation Vita has proven to be a natural landing point for some of these niche titles. Code: Realize - Guardian of Rebirth is a stylish, entertaining visual novel that will not be for everyone, but for those looking for something different and deeper to delve into, you could do a lot worse than this offering.
Amnesia: Memories - PS Vita Review
September 04, 2015Amnesia: Memories, Design Factory, idea factory, Idea Factory International, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita
Amnesia: Memories is an excellent entry into the growing visual novel genre, with solid writing, enjoyable art and interesting characters. Many of the recent visual novels I have played recently felt very linear, but that is not the case here. Those looking for game qualities in their visual novel will likely come away pleased.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls - PS Vita Review
August 28, 2015Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, NIS America, PS Vita, review, Sony PlayStation Vita, Spike Chunsoft
When you have something that works, it can be a risky proposition changing things up. You risk alienating your core fan base. When you keep things the same, you also run the risk of boring gamers with each similar iteration. Credit goes to Spike Chunsoft for managing to find the delicate balance between the two extremes and find something that is still absolutely worth playing.
Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy - PS Vita Review
June 10, 2015Experience Inc., NIS America, Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy, PS Vita Review, Sony PlayStation Vita
Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy is a dungeon crawler that sounds brand new, but it is actually based on a couple of games released on the PC in years past. This particular genre tends to age pretty well for fans, because the emphasis is on party structure, exploration and lots of grinding - all things that are helped by modern visuals, voice acting and the like - but none of those bells and whistles feel mandatory. For better and for worse, Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy wears some of its old school inspiration on its sleeve for everyone to see, but at the end of the day I enjoyed it a good deal.
Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed - PS Vita Review
June 01, 2015Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, Idea Factory International, PS Vita Review, Sony PlayStation Vita
The girls are back once again but this time it is not for their normal JRPG or SRPG shenanigans. Developed by Tamsoft, the makers of the Senran and Onechanbara franchises (both higher paced action games), comes Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed. Here you will see the CPU Goddesses and Candidates in an adventure that is much closer to the Warriors franchise, taking out hundreds and thousands of dogoos at a time looking while looking wicked while doing it.
Games of June
June 01, 2015360, June 2015, Microsoft Xbox 360, Microsoft Xbox One, Monthly, pc, ps3, PS4, PSV, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation Vita, vita, XB1
It’s that time again! June is looking rather heavy release wise with huge titles such as Batman: Arkham Knight to the newest Final Fantasy XIV Expansion and a new Lego Game! Who honestly doesn't love Lego?
I think it also goes without saying that Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth:3 is also releasing. I can't help loving that series and how far it's come since it's first release.
A) I Love Lego
B) I loved Jurassic Park
C) Both make me think of my dad who was really really awesome, brought me to see the movie and bought me god knows how many Lego sets to design incredible worlds of my own for weekends on end.
Pretty much my childhood is in this game and it looks really good. TT Games have come a long way since the original Star Wars and I hope to see them continue to make great games going further.
"10 years after its initial release, Legend of Kay - Anniversary is a thoroughly remastered version of the original game: high-resolution textures; new, more detailed character models; modern rendering techniques and crystal-clear surround sound give this great classic a new shine. Full of fond allusions to old martial arts films and pop culture quotes, Legend of Kay - Anniversary is both an incredibly funny game and a challenging action-adventure for young and old alike."
While I may not have had the chance to play the original, I am looking forward to the next entry of Onechanbara with its quick paced combat against hordes of undead. Releasing at the end of the month should give me enough time to get acquainted with the first entry on the Xbox 360. Here's the trailer below!

Multiplatform Releases
Lego Jurassic World (PS4 / PS3 / XB1 / XB360 / 3DS / WiiU)
I'm going to fanboy for a few seconds in my own little world for this one.A) I Love Lego
B) I loved Jurassic Park
C) Both make me think of my dad who was really really awesome, brought me to see the movie and bought me god knows how many Lego sets to design incredible worlds of my own for weekends on end.

J-Stars Victory Vs+ (PS4 / PS3)
This is honestly not something that I ever thought that we would get but I'm quite happy that we are. Here we have a slew of amazing characters from weekly Shonen Jump all coming in together for a battle royal to rain supreme. Honestly? My money is on Gin because everyone knows that the lazy guy is the ultimate badass. That and he could be seen eating his parfait! Well for two whole seconds anyways.
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend (PS4 / PS3 / XB1)
BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma is the re-work of the third main entry into the BlazBlue universe. I've got to make the admission that I've only ever played the first entry but in my defense I have gotten utterly demolished in multiple Guilty Gear iterations. The newest version is looking really nice and it might be a good time to jump back into it.Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4 / XB1 / PC)
This is the second Warner Brothers title on the this for the month. Back into the hands of Rocksteady Studios, our caped crusader is back for what might be his biggest game yet. Arkham Knight takes place after the events of City and leaves the whole of Arkham open for Batman to take on his enemies that would do his city harm. Not only does the game look stunning, does the voice-cast sound incredible, but you get to drive the Batmobile! (<- Priorities)Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (PS4 / PS3 / PC)
While originally a failure I'm glad that Square went back to the drawing board with FF XIV which has not only seen success but is now receiving an expansion. Adding in new story, classes, and locations, players will now have more to do!The Elder Scrolls Online (PS4 / XB1)
Our second MMO on the list, which is already out for PCs, is The Elder Scrolls online which is coming to owners of PlayStation 4s and / or an Xbox Ones. Having been out for a while now console players will have some catching up to do compared to those that have already had their hands on it for a while now.Legend of Kay HD (PS4 / WiiU / PC)
Originally released back on the PS2 back in 2005, The Legend of Kay is being re-released with an HD upgrade like a lot of older releases have been of late. These are good because without them, I wouldn't have ever played Ratchet and Clank or Jack and Daxter. HD remakes like these are always welcome!"10 years after its initial release, Legend of Kay - Anniversary is a thoroughly remastered version of the original game: high-resolution textures; new, more detailed character models; modern rendering techniques and crystal-clear surround sound give this great classic a new shine. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 3: V Generation
It's finally here! My current favorite into the series is back and upgraded with the same treatments in Rebirth:3. Re-experience Neptune's adventure in a parallel world where is she not the Goddess Purple Heart but instead just along for the ride.Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy
Originally supposed to be released not long ago, Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy is finally upon us with some Dungeon Crawling RPG awesomeness to keep one occupied over the summer.PC
Now for a few quick picks coming out on Steam, enjoy the following trailers and screenshots!Star Hammer The Vanguard Prophecy
