Introducing 'Switchblade' a Sneaky Character Added to Rogue Company Plus Another 6v6 Mode!

Alpharetta, Georgia USA - 06 JULY 2021
: Today, First Watch Games® and Hi-Rez Studios® introduce the latest new Rogue, Switchblade, plus hectic 6v6 modes to free-to-play cross-platform team shooter Rogue Company™.

Joining the ever-growing roster of 20 playable Rogues, Switchblade is a highly effective Breacher who uses a direct approach to flush enemies out from behind cover.

With her Chaos Launcher unique ability Switchblade rains down napalm clusters on unsuspecting foe. Coupled with her Fight and Flight passive - which gives her increased movement speed after using abilities and gadgets like bounce grenades and flashbangs - it means Switchblade will be clearing out enemies across the map.

Who is Switchblade?

On the run since childhood from mercenaries of unknown origin, Switchblade has become a master of survival; self-reliance imposed on her by necessity.

She doesn’t let anyone get too close - most who’ve tried wanted to either kill or kidnap her. Those that genuinely cared for her have ended up taking a bullet.

For Switchblade, joining Rogue Company is a temporary gig. The Director promised they’ll find out who’s been chasing her all these years; in exchange for her services, of course.

There’s always a catch. Switchblade doesn’t believe in promises, but it feels nice to pretend that she does. For a little while at least…

6v6 Modes Come to Rogue Company

In addition to Switchblade, from today Rogue Company’s 20 million players can also enjoy new 6v6 team combat modes:

●     King of the Hill brings five minute rounds of intense capture-and-control gameplay to nine maps. Each team must control the hill to gain points; first to 150 points wins. The problem is the hill moves every 75 seconds…

●     Playing out in rounds of twelve minutes across twelve maps, Team DeathMatch sees two teams of six gunning for the first to reach 50 eliminations. Team cash drops happen after every elimination, with players scrambling to secure the cash to give them the edge.

“Players are going to love Switchblade’s powerful crowd clearing abilities”, says Chris Larson, Executive Producer. “The one-two punch of Chaos Launcher plus movement boost mean they’ll be forcing enemies into the open and shaking up the combat. Bring her into the new 6v6 King of the Hill and Team DeathMatch modes and they’ll see what a difference she can make”.

Rogue Company - PC Preview

Rogue Company by developer First Watch Games and publisher Hi-Rez StudiosPC (Steam) preview written by Susan N. with a copy provided by the publisher.

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

Rogue Company is a third-person shooter game that intrigued me from the trailer. I found myself being thoroughly impressed by this title even though it isn't complete. Assuming that Rogue Company receives additional modes and content, this game will be a worthy contender in the FPS genre.

There are a couple things to note before continuing:

  1. My playthrough of Rogue Company for the purposes of this preview occurred during the Beta when many features haven't yet been added

  2. I played Rogue Company with Jet and his impressions of the game are included in this preview.

  3. Most of the screenshots are taken from a recording of our gameplay since Epic doesn't yet have a screenshot feature!

Rogue Company is an upcoming free to play game developed by First Watch Games and published by Hi-Rez Studios. So let's dive into some of the details.

Rogue Company Gameplay

As with any game, players begin with a simple tutorial where we get to experience Ronin. She is a character that runs around with a Katana and a handy explosive dagger that can attach to walls and detonate upon movement. I have a small problem with this character only because traditionally Ronin are not permitted to carry a Katana. It is a weapon used exclusively by Samurai.

Anyways, Ronin is one of the characters shown in the trailer for Rogue Company, and this is the primary reason I took a chance on this title.

A neat feature of the game is the opening video at the beginning of a match. Not only do the other players get to see who is on their team, but players can figure out what kind of match will unfold. Each character has different abilities that are unique and useful. For example, one of them applies fire damage over time, another applies poison damage, and another sets up barbed wire traps.

Jet's Thoughts On Gameplay:

I found that the game is well optimized, the gameplay is smooth, and gunplay is extremely well done. The gunplay felt good and using different characters changes the loadout you use. Each character is diverse with their abilities and weapons so, players aren't forced into one weapon type.

The game mode is exactly what you expect of it. In comparison to other FPS's, Rogue Company will definitely hold its own. There is a lot of potential for customization based on how the game is setup.

One of my issues with Rogue Company is character loadouts are set in stone right now. You cannot change what primary and secondary weapons each character has, even though it seems like this will be a feature. It's as though players have to guess what the match is going to be like before going in. Thankfully, each character has a close range and long-range weapon for their primary.

Another gripe about Rogue Company is something that every competitive game should have, in my opinion. Let players have Push to Talk voice comms on by default, not Open Mics!

Jet is a MUCH better player!

Graphics and UI

One of the first things I noticed about the graphics is how smooth it is. Upon joining a match, I could tell that the movement and graphics were quite clean. There was no lag of any kind even running the game on a low-end system. It didn't matter if I was swapping weapons or getting into a fistfight with another player. In fact, the graphics were so polished that I almost forgot that Rogue Company is in its early access stage!

I received the founder's edition of Rogue Company which gave me access to in-game currency. The only problem with it at this stage is that there is NOTHING to buy. I know that this feature will be released as time progresses, but at this point, there is no customization because there is nothing available! So while I have the founder's version of the game, all I have to show for it is a neat spray paint and a couple of skins.

This is all that is listed in the store

My Final Thoughts

Overall, I think Rogue Company has the potential to be another shooter that I would play more frequently. It has multiple diverse characters, a couple of neat features, clean gameplay, and decent variety in maps. I can only HOPE that there will be a single-player mode for the game, although I suspect there won't be.

It seems to me that there will be cross-platform because There are indicators like a PC icon next to your name. Also, there are two separate friends lists: Epic friends and Rogue Company players. Plus, various websites have shown that this title will release on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

For the time being, Rogue Company has a solid foundation, but until it has more content, I'll say that I like it so far. Only time will tell if I decide to stick with it.

Yay! A Kill!

Jet's Final Thoughts

Rogue Company has a lot of potential. It is more stable than most games in the genre. It looks spectacular even in the small details. The background is not blocky like some other AAA titles are. For example, you can see the textures on the wall. Also, the fire looks really nice and not cheesy like in Valorant. Overall, I would say, be ready for the community that comes with it. There will be a lot of salt. (Previewers note: UGH! Don't tell me that.)

SMITE and Smitten Golden Rye Ale - Beeps and Beers

What do the MOBA game SMITE and Smitten Golden Rye Ale have in common? A lot of letters in the name of the game and the first word of the beer. Secondly? I spent several hours last weekend with both. With SMITE having released on the PlayStation 4, they had a double everything weekend last week, which was my initial motivation for playing the game even more than usual.

SMITE - PS4 Review

Online gaming has long tried to push the notion that teamwork should be rewarded, but too often it is the solo standout who gets the recognition. This has been especially true of the FPS/third person shooting genre. MOBAs however, require teamwork to win far more often than not, and SMITE is an excellent example of a MOBA that has made the transition from PC to console quite effectively.

SMITE - Xbox One Review

I have become something of a MOBA fanatic over the last year. I have come to expect certain things from the genre, which made me skeptical that it would translate well to the Xbox One because of the controller interface. I am happy to say that SMITE works very well on the Xbox One, and is an absolute blast to play.
