Outbound - PC Review

Outbound by developer Square Glade Games and publisher Silver Lining Interactive—PC (Steam) review written by Valerie, with a purchased copy. Additional points by my partner in crime, Susan N.

Estimated reading time: 9 minutes

Let me tell you about this cozy game my daughter and I are playing together called Outbound. Now, I've been following this game from the initial Kickstarter back in April 2025 to its full release in May 2026. The best Mother's Day gift for myself and my first ever collector's edition in a physical copy!

Outbound is fulfilling my camping itch just nicely with all the visuals and sounds of nature. I've played the single player and have been experiencing a lot of fun and exploration. However, we do have a couple of gripes in multiplayer (more on that later), but we are having a grand time!

We are currently in the third biome and really enjoying hunting for things to complete, rebuild, or fix the various 'attractions.' We even had the pleasure of a hot air balloon ride! The only things missing are the smells and the wind through our hair as we float up.

Gameplay:

Source Energy

You start out in Outbound with an electric powered camper van that starts out at a slow speed, but through the vehicle upgrades the speed increases. When you open the trunk portion of the camper you find the crafting. There's also the motor info as well as the bio burner power plant to fuel the camper. I wasn't good with the minigame in the workbench, but feel free to have fun with it for crafting your tools.

Build

Along with living off grid with your camper van you can build your dream home on top of it. You have access to the upper level with a ladder, and later with the latest fishing update you get stairs to build a multi-level home. There are also blueprints to collect so you can build that awesome home and make more upgrades to your vehicle.

Craft

Your character has a health gauge, food gauge, and there's also the power / fuel gauge for your camper so you know when to stop to power up again. You find many resources for building, food consumption, water collection, and make other parts to fix those attractions you visit.

Grow

As you play, you can build crop plots to grow food for yourself (or your group) and I was amazed at the rating of how much food health you gained from each new recipe we unlocked. After finding the blueprints for the machine needed to cook the ingredients, you can make food that provides up to one hundred percent food health!

Multiplayer

Since I'm hosting our multiplayer game I'll let Susan N. tell her side of the coin for gameplay.

Susan here. Outbound has been quite enjoyable to play both in single player and multiplayer. With Valerie, we've driven across the various biomes, solved puzzles, found multiple gnomeos, and even caught some fish! We've had a great time exploring the world and grabbing plants to grow our own.

I've had the opportunity to do a lot of the driving in our camper van which is quite fun and it allows you to get just about anywhere. Although, there were a couple of locations that were a bit rough to get through like in one of the maps there is a sharp dip in the road filled with some water. That particular section is steep for any vehicle, nevermind the camper van's size or weight.

Anyways, Val and I were able to build a nice house atop the camper van with a couple of lovely fish tanks, an assortment of plants, and as much lighting as we can muster because the lighting is admittedly not the strongest in the game. And it is one of the bigger pain points in the game for us both. Val and I have gone camping together many times over the years and a flashlight or two are some of the first pieces of gear that we pack. In Outbound, the ability to unlock a flashlight or lighting in general is much too late in gameplay, and even at that, the lamps and decorative light for your mobile home is simply not strong enough. The lights barely illuminate anything and the player flashlight is much too harsh at close distances.

That said, there are many other aspects of Outbound that I personally love. I enjoy the lore notes found scattered around the houses and landmark locations. And with every location, you can find a large amount of supplies to be collected for both players - mostly. With the exception of certain later resources that are sparce on purpose, there are plenty of items to gather. Thankfully, most of the items you need respawn quickly.

Now, most of the multiplayer aspects of Outbound are fantastic and the game is really cozy. However, there are some frustrating issues I have found with the multiplayer version of the game. The biggest two have to do with the design of the multiplayer itself, and the lighting.

First, let's talk about the multiplayer design. I will say that it is easy to play with your friends or family since all you need is a succinct five character code to input. Unlike other games where you may need to create a password, you don't need to worry in Outbound. And generally speaking, the multiplayer in Outbound does not have any desyncing to the host player, which is awesome. However, the game struggles with item unlock syncing. As Val is the host of the game, I get to experience the issues of being the other player in the game which is not a bad thing because I have been streaming our playthrough and my PC can only handle so much! Anyways, while Val has all of her upgrades and items unlocked each time we play, I have to pull objects out of the camper for the game to register recipe unlocks. I also have to take time to scroll over all the items in the build menu because the game treats it has having just been unlocked right then. This leads to my having to ask Val to craft certain items because I can't see items in the machines. Once I have done this, then I no longer have the duration of the session. I only have to worry about it on the following stream when we go back in.

Secondly, the lighting in the game is mostly annoying to us both. The floor lamps are not bright enough to cover an area, in fact it seems to only affect the square it sits in. Conversely, the hand flashlight is quite bright, which is great for exploring the great outdoors, it is awfully powerful when you approach a machine or another player. Sadly, I'm unsure what type of solution this would require, but the lighting needs a bit of attention.

Thirdly, there are some interesting issues with falling through parts of the terrain. However, even in saying that, I imagine some of the locations are not meant to be traversed, so I can understand why there isn't always collision where you expect it to be. Val and I didn't find many areas where there were egregious issues with collision, it was noticeable when we did fall through terrain.

All of that said, The multiplayer is mostly seamless which is an incredible feat at times. I will say that Val and I have both had a blast playing Outbound in search of adventure and hunting for gnomeos - clearly one of the best parts of the game!

UI / Graphics:

The graphics style is a low-poly look using the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), and what the heck is that you ask? Well, "The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) is a prebuilt Scriptable Render Pipeline, made by Unity. URP provides artist-friendly workflows that let you quickly and easily create optimized graphics across a range of platforms, from mobile to high-end consoles and PCs." This is a direct quote from the Unity3D website and it is a part of the Unity game engine that is quite popular in today's games. The vibrant colors and 3D environment that is Outbound are fun, easy to navigate, and just an all round wonderful world to drive around in. As an artist I was quite curious about this URP, so I looked it up! You can also read about how Square Glade Games used it here.

There is a little bit of everything in this utopian futuristic game and Outbound has a lot of playability in it with all the little adventures and environments. Susan and I really enjoy hunting down the gnomes (we yell out Gnomeo! each time we see one), so when we find one the other can come see it if she is close to the location. Other than that, I've been taking many screenshots during this game.

The user interface is easy and I am so glad that we have a 'log book' style of menus to navigate. This makes it feel more like being on a camping trip. The first page if you will is your backpack where you also have separate slots for bottlecaps (Remind you of another game? Fallout 3 maybe?) and vouchers. The map takes up the second page and third page is your Task Log where you can see your current objective, any side tasks, and all the ones you've completed. The fourth page is your journal which keeps track of your progress, and the final page is for multiplayer. In order to get to this though, at the start of the game, you have to finish the tutorial. When multiplayer is unlocked in Outbound there is a code you can copy and share with the friends you're going to invite to your game.

There is weather that we experienced days where it rained a few days in a row. You also experience the passage of time as you 'sleep' to 'End the day'. There isn't any combat in cozy games which makes this an awesome exploration game. Yes, you can buy things to decorate your camper with them.

Sound/Music:

Outbound's music is very relaxing in this game and complements the sounds of nature around you. The realism to the sound of the tires on the sandy gravel roads I found to be a little low in volume, but other than that spot on! The attention to the detail of the sounds for each of the crafting machines definitely gives the feel of you actually operating it. Some of the visuals for the machine are cute and interesting. The voice actor for your character is awesome and doesn't overpower the gameplay.

Final Thoughts:

All in all Outbound has been a lot of fun to play and even more of a journey playing this game with Susan. I'm giving Outbound a 10 out of 10 because it has everything I need to camp and have my home with me to live 'off grid'. Oh! I forgot to mention you also get a companion in this game. The dog type you choose with help you carry the items you pick up and be your buddy for wandering around. If you love cosy games like this as much as I do, go get it! It's available in all platforms now.

Brand New Trailer for Pixel Washer Launches Ahead of Release Later This Year!

LOS ANGELES - August 2026 | Acclaim, Inc. and Valadria today released a new gameplay trailer for Pixel Washer, the cozy, retro-inspired power-washing sim, giving players their best look yet at the game's grimy locales, its stacked arsenal of mighty power washers, and the various vehicles players can unlock to get from job to job.

The trailer takes players on a tour of Pixel Washer's crud-caked world, from grungy game rooms and mud-caked museums to crusty city streets and filthy food trucks, each rendered in the game's charming pixel art style.

In addition to highlighting the various locales you’ll cleanse of crud, the trailer also offers a glimpse of the power washers featured in the game. with a distinct spray pattern to help the plucky porcine protagonist Pigxel overcome the mother of all messes.

Rounding out the reveal is a look at the vehicles players can buy with their hard-earned cash to haul their gear across town. These rides run the gamut from rugged work vans and tantalizing taco trucks to more exotic sets of wheels, including the ultimate road hog, the Pig Mobile!
“There’s something beautifully backwards about sending a pig in to clean up everyone else’s mess,” said Marc Anthony Rodriguez, Director of Publishing & Strategic Partnerships at Acclaim. “Pigxel doesn’t just get dirty. He makes dirty his business. Pixel Washer takes that oddly satisfying feeling of blasting years of questionable grime off something & turns it into a colorful little obsession.  We cannot wait for everyone to get their hooves dirty when Pixel Washer sprays its way onto the Switch, Switch 2, and Steam this fall.”

Developed by California-based indie developer Valadria, Pixel Washer puts players behind the stylish goggles of Pigxel, a pig tasked with turning filthy environments into shining pixel art masterpieces. Armed with a trusty power washer, players blast dirty sprites back to a pixel-perfect shine across a wide variety of sullied settings, all set to a chill soundtrack.

Key Features

  • Wash and Restore - Use your power washer to blast away grime and bring beautiful pixel art levels back to their full glory.
  • Explore a Grimy World - Travel through six-plus sullied locales, each with its own look, mess, and pixel-perfect payoff.
  • Build Your Arsenal - Choose from a growing lineup of power washers, each with a unique spray pattern for a different kind of grime.
  • Ride in Style - Earn money on the job and spend it on new vehicles to help you get from gig to gig.
  • Cozy Vibes - Relax to a chill soundtrack and satisfying sound design that makes cleaning feel like a reward, not a chore.

Pixel Washer is coming soon to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 1, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Her search leads her into a forgotten, overgrown world where moss-covered shrines and quiet spirits hold memories of another time. Inspired by solo developer Argyro Brotsi's travels through Japan's traditional villages, the game's watercolour landscapes and gentle creature design carry a warm, Ghibli-inspired charm. Beneath the cozy surface is a quietly emotional story about connection, kindness and the strange ways a journey to find something can lead you to discover something else entirely.
"Seina started in a small Japanese village, not at a desk," said Argyro Brotsi, solo developer and founder of Pofupofu Studios. "I fell in love with the quiet of those places, the way the light fell through the trees, the way nothing was in a hurry, and I wanted to give people somewhere to step into that feeling. The whole game is my love letter to that trip."

Shape the Land with Your Friends the Luminids Coming to PC in 2027

July 2026 - Cambridge, UK | Let's talk about the 2027 upcoming game titled Luminids. It is about shaping land and guiding tiny beings called Luminids as they gather, build, grow, and react to the world around them. You plan from above, then step into first person and walk through the settlement you built with them.

The angle is simple: a calm, no-combat colony sim that feels less like managing a grid and more like visiting a living little world of emergent beings. A love letter to Creatures and Sonic Chao meets Minecraft. 🙂
Luminids is very close to my heart - it's about wellness, stillness and a chance to help the world slow down a bit. A real labour of love! - Nick, Luminids Founder and Developer

Detailed Description

Luminids blends colony simulation, world-building, and exploration into a calmer kind of sandbox. You shape the land, place structures, and guide a colony of small creatures with their own needs, routines, and personalities. As the settlement grows, the world starts to feel like a place you are making with them rather than just a system you are managing.

Its clearest twist is the change in perspective. You can plan from above, then step into first person to walk through the same spaces at ground level. That shift turns the colony from an abstract layout into somewhere you can actually visit. Luminids is designed as a cozy sandbox with no combat and no fail states, with the focus on building, exploration, and watching the world settle into shape.

Key Features

  • Creature-Driven Colony Simulation
    • Guide a colony of small creatures as they gather, build, rest, and grow in the world around them.
  • Build From Above, Explore Up Close
    • Plan your settlement from an isometric view, then step into first person and walk through it yourself.
  • Shape the Land
    • The world is not just a backdrop. You change the terrain your colony lives in and builds on.
  • Living Biomes
    • Build across distinct environments, from greener open spaces to harsher and more dramatic landscapes.
  • Calm Creative Sandbox
    • Luminids is about building, exploration, and observation, not combat or pressure.
  • No Combat, No Fail States
    • The game is designed to feel open, calm, and welcoming from the first build onward.

Cat Mail Co. - PC Review

Cat Mail Co. by developer Maracas Studio and publisher Gamersky Games - PC(Steam) review by Richard with a copy provided by the publisher.

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

What a meow-gnificent evening it is to send your paw-rcels out to those family and friends! Are mew looking to pick up an item or send something out? Well at Cat Mail Co. we can send and receive all your deliveries!

In Cat Mail Co. you take on the role of the newest postal employee at the post office on Cat Island. Unfortunately, the old post office senior doesn’t seem to be around, so you need to get used to the post office on your own!

Work at the post office is done in shifts between morning and night, with two divisions in your shifts. At the beginning of a shift you will be dealing with customers showing up. Either they will ask for a parcel or give you items to send. If they ask for a parcel they will either give a name or a description of a parcel and you need to locate it and bring it to them. For example, they may ask for a parcel for Evie Nightclaw, and you then need to find a parcel addressed to Evie N. sent to Cat Island. Or they may be obtuse about what they need and say something along the lines of “a parcel that isn’t lightweight that was attacked by a griffon”, and then you need to go find a heavy box with scratch marks on the package. Nifty tip, if the person coming for a package doesn’t specify something, it means it doesn’t apply. For example, packages can be heavy or fragile. If the customer doesn’t specify one of the two, the package is neither, at least as far as I’ve seen in the current build state.

If the customer offers you a parcel, it is now your job to properly put the necessary stickers on the package to get it ready for sending out. Parcels need a destination sticker, a number of stickers for the weight, and any extra conditions, such as fragile or heavy. As you continue to play you will unlock more conditions, such as packages that need to stay hot or cold. Once you’ve dealt with a certain number of customers, the phase of the shift changes and the boat captain comes rolling in. He brings you gifts of parcels for Cat Island, and you need to grab them from the ship and sort them how you wish. Once all the parcels are off the ship, the boat captain will tell you where his destination is. You must now play tetris with outgoing packages to send them to their intended recipient. As an example, Windy Bay is the first place to ship to, but the space on the ship is small. You may only be able to fit four or five packages on the ship, depending on their size. You also need to pay attention to the heavy and fragile packages. Once you’re happy with your work, you can send him off.

At this point your shift ends and you are awarded with points based on your statistics such as: packages delivered by hand, packages sent by ship, and any negative points from packages ruined by improper storing, or by putting the wrong package on the ship. If you do send a mis-stickered package it will be returned to you next time the boat captain comes by. Once you earn enough points you unlock something new. Sometimes it’s a new location, sometimes it’s a new condition on packages such as the hot or cold rooms.

In addition to all this there are massive piles of packages in the back hallway, and in the hot and cold rooms. If you pull enough packages out of these piles they will shrink. Do your best to completely clean up the piles, and maybe you can figure out the mystery of where the previous postman has gone!

Cat Mail Co. is a cozy game about sorting your office, cleaning up the mess, and getting a job well done by cleaning out your backlog of parcels. It’s actually quite soothing. There’s something quite satisfying about sending thirty or more packages out on the ship and completely clearing out a full shelf of packages for a destination. I can definitely say there were some times where I was getting worried because my freezer was filling up too fast, or my dedicated destination shelf was overflowing and I had to make an emergency overflow shelf, but a good system goes a long way.

There are a few issues here and there, but they are getting gradually patched out as the game continues. Currently the only issue I have in the current version is that occasionally packages put on the top of shelves in the cold and hot rooms may sometimes get damaged regardless of the fact they're in the corresponding room. It doesn't seem to happen to all packages, or even just the general top shelf sometimes, so try and keep things on the shelves proper or the floor until that gets sorted.

Oh, and did I mention you can play with friends? Yup, you and up to three friends can tackle the job together! Work together to create a perfectly organized system for managing your inventory. Or totally mess things up when your friends aren’t looking and drive them nuts. Either way, Cat Mail Co. is a great time to be had fur all your mail-time needs!

Tame-a-Goat-Chi Out in Early Access Today!

Dubai, UAE — May 11, 2026 | Independent studio Rio Master announces Tame-a-goat-chi, a cozy desktop companion experience launching in Early Access on Steam on May 28, 2026. A playable demo is available now, and review copies (Steam keys) are currently available upon request. The studio also reveals a charming teaser offering a first look at the game’s expressive goat companions.

Designed to live alongside daily routines, the game introduces a herd of expressive goats that quietly share the player’s screen while working, studying, or relaxing.

A Cozy Experience for Modern Routines

As work, study, and entertainment increasingly share the same screen, Tame-a-goat-chi offers a companion experience designed to fit naturally into everyday desktop life. Inspired by the nostalgic charm of virtual pets, it reimagines that feeling for modern habits where small interactive worlds can exist alongside daily activity.

It sits comfortably within moments of work, study, or creative focus, allowing players to check in whenever they choose.

A Gentle Companion for Your Desktop

A small herd of goats appears on the lower part of the screen, creating a soft but living presence throughout the day. They wander, rest, and play while reacting to their surroundings, occasionally requiring care and attention.

The experience naturally shifts between calm observation and playful interaction depending on the moment, with each goat expressing its own personality, rhythm, and behavior. Some are calm and affectionate, while others are more playful or unpredictable. They respond differently to care, objects, food, and music, gradually revealing their individuality over time.

Care, Rewards and Growth

Taking care of goats generates rewards that allow players to expand their pasture over time. New goats, interactive objects, and environmental elements can be added as the world evolves.

Helpers can also be introduced to support daily tasks and maintain the farm’s growth.

Mini Games and Unexpected Events

Goats take part in playful mini games and light challenges that bring variety to daily interaction. Unexpected events can also occur, from spontaneous DJ goat dance parties (“Goat is a DJ”) to chaotic arrivals like Goatzilla, bringing humor and unpredictability to everyday life on the pasture.

Key Features

  • Desktop Companion Experience: A goat world that lives alongside daily screen use
  • Unique Goat Behavior: Each goat reacts differently to the player and environment
  • Care & Progression Loop: Care for goats to earn coins and expand the farm
  • Mini Games & Challenges: Light interactive gameplay moments with goats
  • Surprise Events: Unexpected playful or chaotic situations
  • Evolving Pasture: Expand with goats, objects, and helpers

What is Bobo Bay?

Bobo Bay is a charming pet simulation and creature collecting game that combines creativity, strategy, and competition into an engaging blend of exploration and challenge. In the game, players collect, mash (breed), accessorize, and train adorable little creatures called Bobos - each with unique appearances, traits, and personalities - as they prepare to compete in races and other scheduled competitions across the world of Starling Isle.

At the heart of Bobo Bay is its deep customization system: Bobos come in thousands of combinations of body shapes, colors, patterns, eye styles, stats, and mood traits, allowing players to craft truly one-of-a-kind companions. Throughout their lifecycle, Bobos evolve from saplings into full-grown buds, and players may even unlock new opportunities to help them sprout into evolved forms with different features and competitive strengths.

Bobo Bay Aerial Town

The game’s world is richly detailed with a cute central town where players can explore shops for accessories, register new Bobos, visit the doctor, drop them off at camp, adopt from shelters, or buy snacks to enhance their performance. In addition to traditional races, players can tackle structured progression tracks called Sagas, complete a variety of Trials, and even challenge legendary Bobo Stars - special rivals that, if defeated, reward players with rare saplings of the same species.

Whether traversing serene environments in search of new Bobos or strategizing which traits and outfits will give them the edge in competition, Bobo Bay emphasizes player choice, community engagement, and replayability. Its cozy vibe, vibrant visuals, and blend of simulation and racing elements make it appealing to fans of both creature-collecting games and relaxed, creative worlds.

Experience France in the Year 1643 on Steam with Cozy Narrative Game The Abbess Garden

March 2, 2026 | The Abbess Garden, a cozy narrative gardening game set in 1643 France, is available today on Steam and the indie.io store. Blending real horticulture with historical storytelling, the game invites players to restore a long-forgotten garden, uncover a quiet spy intrigue, and experience a gentle romance as the seasons pass.

Set at the abbey of Port-Royal-des-Champs, a real historical site in the heart of France, The Abbess Garden follows Agnès, a young peasant entrusted with restoring the Abbess’ private garden. What begins as a simple act of care gradually reveals hidden objects, new areas to unlock, and a deeper narrative woven into the grounds.

At the core of the experience is a gardening system inspired by real botany. Plants have authentic needs based on soil type, water, and proximity to other species. There is no grid-based placement. Instead, the garden grows organically, shaped by observation and thoughtful adjustments. As seasons change, players can identify plants across their life stages and gather flowers, roots, leaves, and seeds at the right moment for botany, medicine, and quest progression.

Exploration rewards curiosity. Hidden items fill collections and trigger new dialogue, while the discovery of a book written by a deceased spy introduces a subtle historical intrigue. Together with members of the local community, Agnès works to interpret its meaning before it reaches the attention of European royalty. The story unfolds linearly, allowing players to progress whenever they feel ready, reinforcing the game’s calm and approachable tone.

Created by a women-led development team and featured in several female-oriented indie development showcases, The Abbess Garden emphasizes care, patience, and atmosphere over urgency.

The Abbess Garden is available now for $9.99, with a 20% launch discount for a limited time. Players can also purchase the game bundled with its original soundtrack at an additional discount.

The game is available on Steam and on the indie.io store.
