Star Citizen Welcomes New Players to Foundation Festival

Who:

Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), developer of Star Citizen and Squadron 42, is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA games outside the established publisher system. Founded in 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts, CIG is shifting the paradigm of game development towards a more inclusive process, offering its global community an unprecedented level of visibility and engagement by granting ongoing access to a product in active development.

What:

The Foundation Festival, a month-long civic program aimed at strengthening community spirit, returns to Star Citizen from July 6-31. Returning alongside the festivities is the Guide System, an industry leading program that leverages the Star Citizen community at scale to connect the best veteran pilots with newcomers to onboard them to the ‘verse, supplementing the recently updated New Player Experience added to Area18 in patch 3.19. The Guide System covers 12 core topics including vehicle combat, mining, trading, racing, and more, rewarding veteran players with pilot cosmetics and new players with weapons and an ever useful Multi-tool set for successful completion of Guided Sessions. Further rewarding Guide System participants, players can build up more rewards by earning up to five unique sets of armor and weapons valued at over $80 by completing Guided Sessions during bonus weekends. With a Free Fly event granting access to 12 ships from July 6-17, the recently improved new-player experience available in Area18, discounts on starter packs, updated referral rewards, and the Guide System brimming with in-game rewards, there has never been a better time to try Star Citizen and explore the ‘verse together. Cloud Imperium Games Will Meet Rival CCP at "Battle of the Bricks" To Fundraise for Extra Life!

REYKJAVIK, Iceland, and LOS ANGELES – July 13, 2022 – Cloud Imperium Games will soon meet their interstellar rival, CCP, at the CIG studio for the "Battle of the Bricks," a fundraising event for Extra Life, a charity supporting Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Battle of the Bricks tasks each team with hand-building replicas of popular ships from sci-fi spacefaring MMOs, EVE Online and Star Citizen, while completing difficult challenges. Tune in to Star Citizen’s Twitch channel at 1 p.m. Eastern / 10 a.m. Pacific on Friday, July 22 to watch CCP and Cloud Imperium Games build ships while eating the world’s hottest chili peppers, revealing embarrassing photos, and more. The fundraiser will remain open until December 31, 2022.

Throughout June 2022, EVE Online and Star Citizen players submitted digital recreations of their favorite spacecraft to be considered for the charity live stream event. The teams received countless creative submissions, with EVE Online’s Primae and Star Citizen’s Banu Merchantman being selected by a panel of community judges as the winners for the build-off.

“When Cloud Imperium Games challenged us on Twitter to a spaceship build-off back in December, we gladly took them up on it,” said Rafn Herlufsen, Director of Player Experience and Community at CCP Games. “CCP Games and Cloud Imperium Games are friendly rivals, but they are similar in that each has a dedicated community of intrepid space pioneers. Tune in to the live stream event on July 22nd to cheer on your team and help us fundraise for a good cause.”

“We knew our friends at CCP would answer the call to the Battle of the Bricks, and we're excited to bring our amazing communities together for this fantastic fundraising event for Extra Life,” said Tyler Witkin, Director of Community at Cloud Imperium Games. “It has been inspiring to see our separate universes join forces to rally around such a wonderful cause and celebrate the creativity and passion on display in the space game genre that we all share. As various donation milestones are met during the stream, CCP and Cloud Imperium Games will spin a wheel to determine the activity both teams must attempt. Activities for the stream range from wholesome to zany, including EVE Online or Star Citizen in-game ship giveaways, trying rotten shark, eating mystery-flavored jelly beans, and much more. The full list of activities that the teams could be tasked with attempting will be revealed during the live stream event on July 22, 2022.

For the uninitiated, Cloud Imperium Games’ Star Citizen is the monolithic immersive sim borne from the mind of actor, director, and game developer, Chris Roberts. On a quest to build “the best damn space sim,” Roberts launched a wildly successful crowd-funding campaign way back in 2012- in the years since the project was first announced, we’ve seen the addition of three different modes of play, the space dogfighting mode Arena Commander, the FPS PVP arena Star Marine, and the icing on the cake- the Persistent Universe.

As it’s long-winded development continues to release morsel of content every quarter, the good folks at CIG have begun implementing in-game events; from the massively popular, military-focused Invictus Launch Week to the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo that sees one of Star Citizen’s many landing zones taken over by ship manufacturers in a process not all that dissimilar than our own real life Detroit Auto Show. Other events may celebrate specific professions, such as mining or cargo hauling, or even week-long events celebrating “First Contact Day,” or “Alien Week” as it’s referred to. With Star Citizen’s 2951 Alien Week celebration in full swing, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some of our very own resident Space Marshall T1ckles’ stunning virtual photography. With the built-in advanced camera controls, T1ckles has been hard at work documenting his adventures in the Persistent Universe and today we’re here to showcase some of that work- note that these are all raw images and haven’t been touched up- what you see is what the game actually looks like (assuming you have the computer to run this beastly title).
