Axiom Verge - PC Review
In 1987, the world first met Samus Aran, and I fell in love. In '91 and '94, we collectively enjoyed the second and third games, and the Metroidvania subgenre was born. 2002's Metroid Fusion was the original reason I bought a GBA, and the reboot of Metroid 1 in 2004 was the last we heard of the 2D Metroid series.
Axiom Verge - PS4 Review
Throwback games are not uncommon these days. Retro gets applied to graphics, gameplay mechanics and more. Sometimes these nostalgic callbacks work, sometimes they do not. Axiom Verge unequivocally works, because it still remembers the right notes to hit while balancing nostalgia and gameplay, while still showing enough modern sensibility to be fun in today's gaming culture.
