  • House Flipper Remastered Collection - PC Review

I enjoy simulation-type games, and I enjoyed the original release of House Flipper, but I never got around to getting the DLC. When the remastered version of the game was released, I figured it would be the best way to experience the DLC while checking out how the base game was upgraded.

Dungeon of the Endless - PC Review

Dungeon of the Endless is Amplitude Studio's foray into the rogue-like dungeon-defense genre that has RPG-style elements mixed in with some squad-based combat. Taking place in the same universe as the Endless Space/Endless Legends universe, Dungeon of the Endless starts you off in a downed space craft and from there the dungeon-diving begins. Now those of you that have been around for any length of time may know that Amplitude Studios is a studio that has developed a few of my favorite games of all time, Endless Space, a stunning 4X high technology, space-based strategy title, and Endless Legend, a high fantasy 4X strategy title. With Dungeon of the Endless, Amplitude is aiming to bring their loyal fan base something new, different, and wholly unique to the rogue-like genre. When I previewed the game back in September I was quite impressed with how solid the game felt, even though it was still in Early Access.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection - Xbox One Review

There was an incredible opportunity here, and I have held off on publishing my review because I wanted to give 343 Industries every opportunity to make the experience right for users. It has gotten better, but with matchmaking that is still broken weeks out from the release, Halo: The Master Chief Collection represents everything that is right and wrong about modern gaming all in one large package. That is because while gaming is faster, more detailed, longer lasting with more options than ever, release cycles and publisher deadlines mean that far too often gamers are paying a premium to help serve as beta testers on buggy games that development teams have no business shipping.

Lords of Xulima - PC Review

There’s a certain point in my gaming history where consoles took a back seat for a good few years. These days were filled with lots of Interplay and BlackIsles such as Fallouts 1 and 2, IceWind Dale, Planescape Torment, and so on. Point is, and even today, not only are these classics, but Divinity: Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity, Tides of Numeria are bringing these styles back. Enter Lords of Xulima which takes this classic old school style and merges it with a combat system that has made a resurgence in the past few years between Might and Magic X, Legends of Grimrock, Class of Heroes 2, and Demon’s Gaze.

Congratulations - you just spent $60 to be a beta tester - Gaming Thoughts

Developers are trying to do more than ever with the games they create. No longer are they putting together 8-bit titles with midi music and roughly eighty minutes of gameplay. They have online connections, save states, competitive balance, photo realistic visuals and sound tracks built on real music and voice acting. I get it - game development is complicated. There are more moving parts, bigger teams and tremendous goals to be sought here. This is why releases keep getting pushed back. Far from ideal, but from the gamer's perspective? Push the game back and get it right.

What is baffling is how a title like Driveclub can be pushed back a year and still be broken. How do titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection manage to have their online so horrifically broken weeks later? Would Dragon Age: Inquisition have fixed its problems on the PlayStation 4 if not for reviewers before the game released finding the issues? There are varying degrees to this problem, but the fact of the matter is this: far too often gamers are spending their hard earned money to buy games that simply do not work.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Tiamat - Tabletop and Board Games Review

The newest installment of the recently rebooted Dungeons & Dragons experience has come out, and while we are still waiting on that final Dungeon Master's Guide (releasing next week), we had a chance to take a look at the second half of the Tyranny of Dragons. All in all, The Rise of Tiamat feels like a fitting, challenging follow-up to Hoard of the Shadow Queen.

Tetris Ultimate - 3DS Review

Tetris is one of those games that I equate to comfort food. The timing is perfect because as the weather gets colder and the seasonal travel increases, the ability to access this digital comfort food is very welcome indeed. Tetris has been around long enough now that fans are in for very few surprises, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit! - PS Vita Review

The Senran Kagura series first came into being at the tale end of 2011, where its first title, Senran Kagura: Shojo-tachi no Shinei (Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows) was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. Since then it has received not only a number of video game spin-offs and sequels on various platforms, but also spawned a short anime and a number of manga publications. The original title was a side-scrolling ninja-themed action title (as was its sequel, Senran Kagura Burst). Since then it has stayed primarily a side-scrolling action game, though in 2014, Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson moved from a 2D side-scrolling game to a 3D side-scrolling game.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 Remaster - PlayStation 3 Review

I have played most of the Final Fantasy games over the years, dating back to the first on the NES (I traded my copy of Metroid to a friend who did not care for Final Fantasy at all. Considering by that time I had beaten Metroid at least a dozen times, I feel like I came out ahead on that deal). The series has always engrossed me, even when some of the installments might have fallen short of my expectations - but that is due in large part to my enormous expectations from the franchise. Enter Final Fantasy X, which is my favorite title in the series. This game was the reason I wanted a PlayStation 2 so badly years ago (and thanks to some family members pooling together for Christmas, I got it). Square Enix released a remastered edition of the game earlier this year, and now that this year's Christmas is nearly at hand, I thought it was time to share my thoughts on the title.
