The Kindred - PC Preview

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of sandbox and creative games which is a genre that seems to have exploded a bit with the trend of Indie games. Because there are so many different iterations floating around out there it’s hard to find something unique and well crafted. The Kindred from Persistent Studios is definitely an early access game, looking more like a human simulation of Wales than an actual game. However, it's obvious the developers are passionate about their creation and I like the direction it's headed in.

Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart - PC Review

Hyperdevotion Noire is a spin-off title from the Hyperdimension Neptunia series that allows you to play as the titular character, Noire.  While the whole run of games from the Neptunia world all look and feel fairly similar, being able to approach the conflict from the other side is always a refreshing, take on things that I’m more than happy to get behind, despite not being an outright fresh notion.

Coffin Dodgers - Xbox One Review

I came away from my time with Coffin Dodgers trying to figure out how to best summarize my time with it. In the end what I came up with is that it is a series of missed opportunities, which is a shame given the fact that the kart genre could certainly use an infusion of new blood (or in this case perhaps old blood?). The game is playable, but from start to finish, I could not help but notice a list of things where Coffin Dodgers could have been better.

The used game market plays out in a variety of spaces. A lot of people don't like to take their games into big chains like Gamestop because they feel that they get cents on the dollar. There are some obvious advantages to sites like Gamestop however, such as a wider selection of games available to be purchased with your trades, a willingness to take just about anything and the sense of comfort that comes from knowing they will likely be around next week. A lot of startup trading sites cannot say the same, and it looks like 99gamers might now be among them.

Unepic - PS4 Review

Unepic is what can aptly be called a “ye olde 2D dungeon crawler”. Young Daniel and his friends are sitting around playing what I assume is Dungeons and Dragons. Suddenly he has to piss, and while in the bathroom someone turns off the light, and all of a sudden he finds himself in a dimly lit castle full of traps and monsters.

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies - PS Vita Review

MegaTagmension is the latest from the line of Hyperdimension Neptunia spin-offs, featuring the least “gifted” goddess this side of Gamindustri. MegaTagmension feels and plays quite similar to Action Unleashed, another spin-off from the same series, if you’ve played it before. If not, it has a very Dynasty Warrriors/Musou feel going for it during the story mode, and a sort of Monster Hunter style feeling for the online missions. Well then, places everyone, as we take a look at the anime styled attempts of Blanc to save a closing school with the power of film, and zombies.

Eternal Destiny - PC Review

Card games can be pretty niche, and each one tries to bring something different to the table to help it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Eternal Destiny does not do any one thing spectacularly well, but by the same token it does do most things well. I came away enjoying my time spent with this game, despite its handful of lesser flaws.

Nioh - PS4 Preview

FREED FROM THIS MORTAL COIL. Pretty much you have died. Again and again. And again. Alright I’m not the greatest at these but I’ve got tenacity and keep going back for more until I can finally run things smoothly enough. Nioh, like Lords of the Fallen, takes the idea that makes From Software’s Souls Series tick and makes it into something of its own. Running parallel in style only, Team Ninja / Tecmo Koei’s newest project holds plenty of promise to come if things keep up with what this alpha demo provided.

RWBY Volume 3 - Anime Review

Rooster Teeth; vaunted creators of the longest running web series in history, Red vs. Blue. In 2013 they debuted RWBY, the animated series created and produced but the late, beloved, and sorely missed Monty Oum. Released originally as a series of short webisodes on their website (and later to other streaming services like YouTube, Crunchyroll, and Netflix). RWBY's first "season" was released on Blu Ray as Volume 1, which combined the first 12 or so episodes into something of a feature-length film. Near the end of 2014, Rooster Teeth released Volume 2, the combination of "season 2" and after a year of frothing at the mouth, Volume 3 was released on May 3rd, 2016. I was fortunate enough to grab a copy of the latest Blu Ray release and true to form, am thoroughly impressed with Rooster Teeth Production's latest RWBY release, the first after the passing of Monty Oum.
