Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack

Yup, going to continue going strong on this whole Mass Effect theme.  Any why not?  On the heels of the announcement for extended ending DLC (for free, despite much of the cynacism out there that EA would charge for it) - well apparently there will now be another free DLC out there.  Here is the press release information for it.

Join the fight to save the galaxy with the first multiplayer downloadable content pack for Mass Effect™ 3! Available to download for owners of Mass Effect 3 for no additional charge*, the Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack adds two new maps to the game’s critically acclaimed cooperative multiplayer experience, along with a variety of new playable characters, new weapons and new items that can be unlocked by acquiring reinforcement packs in the game’s multiplayer store. The Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack will be available for download on April 10 on Xbox®LIVE and the Origin™ client software and on PlayStation® Network in North America on April 10 and in Europe on April 11.

The Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack includes the following content:

  • Two New Action-Packed Maps – Take the battle to Firebase Condor, a warzone outpost located on one of Palaven's moons and Firebase Hydra, an old abandoned quarian colony which has since been converted into a critical power facility. Each map represents a crucial asset in the overall fight against the Reapers.

  • Six Powerful New Unlockable Characters – Assume the role of new characters for each class, including the Asari Justicar Adept, Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard and characters from new playable races with the Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer and Geth Infiltrator.

  • Lethal New Weapons – Obliterate wave after wave of enemies by unlocking the Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun and Geth Plasma SMG.

  • New Consumables – Cash in your credits to purchase reinforcement packs that could include the following new consumables:
    • Strength Enhancer – Applies a melee damage boost for one mission
    • Targeting VI – Applies a headshot damage bonus for one mission
    • Stabilization Module – Stabilizes weapons while firing and moving for one mission
    • Shield Power Cells – Shortens the length of time shields take to begin recharging for one mission

As part of the Mass Effect 3 Galaxy at War** system, success in the cooperative multiplayer experience in Mass Effect 3 links back to the player’s single-player campaign, helping Commander Shepard rally the forces of the galaxy to eliminate the Reaper threat once and for all. Multiplayer puts players in the role of a team of elite Special Forces soldiers sent to protect resources and assets that can help the greater war effort.

Mass Effect 3 has received over 75 perfect scores and won over 50 awards from critics around the world. --- So my take?  That's good stuff overall.  I have enjoyed the online quite a bit, but had already pretty well exhausted most of my options on it, maxing out several characters now.  So this is welcome news in my opinion.  What are your thoughts?

  1. For what it is, it's a darned good pack of extras. The new levels are interesting and definitely have their own strategies to them, and though I don't use the new items or weapons at all (I just don't see the need to ever not use the Geth Plasma Shotgun), they have their uses, which is more than you can say for 60% of the rest of the weapons in Multiplayer. The new characters are great; there's entire new strategies to consider for most of them, new roles they can provide to a team, and frankly, the Soldier class desperately needed an AoE murder-machine like the Batarian. I'd certainly never pay for something so trivial as an update to Multiplayer, but this is way better than one could ever reasonably expect from a free download, to be sure.

Of course, that's not surprising, given that there's every indication that this was planned to be sold originally, but that it became a pitifully inadequate olive branch to the ME3 community after the outrage of the ending...but all the same, good stuff for what it is.

  2. Yeah, considering I beat the single player some time ago, the multiplayer still gives me an excuse to fire the game up every other weekend or so with my son and we're both enjoying it. Having new characters was a huge perk for me, as well as the new maps. I wouldn't mind seeing some more come in, pair or free.

  3. What's your handle in the Multiplayer? I've been meaning to find someone to team up with, and all my other ME fan friends don't touch the MP side of it at all.

Assuming you play on a compatible system, at least. If that's an issue. Is it? Can you play the MP with someone even if they're playing on another system? I don't even know.

  4. There's no system cross-play, so for example PS3, 360 and PC don't interact on multiplayer. In fact, the PS3 has sort of been screwed on the multiplayer front because their publishing policies restrict Bioware from doing the operation weekends and rewards too from what I have read.

I play it on the Xbox 360, and feel free to add me to any of your gaming accounts. I use:

For Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam so feel free to add me to any or all of the above. :)

  5. Ah, I play on the PC, so I guess that doesn't work out, then. Ah well.

  6. Ah - that's a bummer. :( the 360 has actually worked out quite well for me on that front - see, on that ME 3 came on 2 discs. My son and I discovered that both discs have multiplayer. So we can play together full screen on different tvs/xboxs in different rooms. :)
