Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes

Back in 2019 my significant other introduced me to a game titled Supraland. It was the first Supra game released and I fell in love with the game. In fact, I spent a ton of time playing the game until I completed it. After I reached the end, I recall being sad because it was such a fun experience.

Now that we are in 2025, Supra Games released Supraworld into Early Access and I'm telling you that I needed to get my hands on it.

Early Access Gameplay

As an Early Access title, this preview will be shorter than the full review of the game, but that's okay because I already love this game - mostly. Starting off with the basics, Supraworld takes a bit of a different approach than its predecessor in that Supraland allowed you to have a weapon and a couple of gizmos to assist in your progression. In Supraworld, you don't start with weapons. Actually, you don't even start with jump!

When you begin the game, you awaken in a bed and you end up following your friend. It becomes clear that people are rooting for you to become the new puzzle solver. This means there is another who is also vying for the title and before you can get more information, the Princess is kidnapped! Not only do you and the other finalist have to try to pass your test, but you now have to save her. If there is anything that I raised my eyebrow at, it would be the overdone plot point that kicks off the game where we have to save the Princess, but beyond that, I enjoy Supraworld thus far.

So, the first thing you learn about your adventures in Supraworld is that you don't get a weapon, which makes gameplay a bit more interesting as you have to use your observation skills and cunning intelligence to solve the various puzzles. And though the other Supra games require a bit of platforming, you also don't begin with the ability to jump. It's a skill you have to unlock from one of the Kinder Surprise eggs that are hidden within the starting area. Those eggs provide you with upgrades that get you access to locations you couldn't previously. Now, originally I was a tad bit annoyed that I couldn't jump onto ledges that I knew I could, but once you find the upgrades, Supraworld becomes your oyster. Its secrets will no longer hide from your gaze unless you don't discover them. Also, some of the secrets can be found after you gain the ability to crouch, others are hidden behind locked doors, and some you simply fall into by accident... Each of them reward you with some coins or perhaps a clue to solving a different puzzle.

While you look for upgrades, you'll end up quietly raging at your competitor because he repeatedly takes credit for your achievements. But, the more secrets and upgrades you find, the more you leave him in the dust. You're able to get out of the base area with ease.

The Puzzles

One of the main components of Supraworld is the focus on puzzle solving over killing enemies that repeatedly respawn. As a person who thoroughly enjoys puzzle solving, I like this approach a little bit more than the combat elements in the previous game. That is simply because I am not the best at aiming while using a controller - which makes this sort of game much easier to play.

Many of the puzzles were fairly easy to figure out, with the exception of one secret area. If you land in the area where you have a metal D6 to lift, I hope you have already unlocked the ability to do so, otherwise this puzzle becomes virtually impossible. For one thing, you aren't able to pick up the die to do anything useful. The second reason to be concerned about this puzzle area is the appearance of the first baddies. Since you don't have a fighting weapon, they become a little more challenging to deal with. Although, it is one of the areas I am uncertain if I fully solved.

There are some cleverly hidden areas throughout the map which made me smile like opening the front door to the house or using your blow gun to move objects into the right spots. I also appreciated the solution to one of the egg locations more than anything, but I won't spoil which one that is.

One of the best aspects of the Supra games is that sometimes there are hidden locations you don't know are in the area until you see your stats when transitioning from one area to another. Apparently, I have a few secrets that I missed in the base area, and I thought I had most of it covered! However, just because I haven't found them doesn't necessarily mean the locations or the puzzles to access them are mind-bendingly difficult. The game mixes the right amount of difficulty with common sense that Supraworld is honestly the most fun type of puzzle game.

Graphics and UI

Something that I love about the Supra games is the graphics and ease of access. The games can be played on keyboard or controller, which allows you to be able to pick up the game and start your journey. And since there isn't really a combat system, you don't have to worry about controls being more than move, jump, activate, and crouch. So, no matter what type of player you happen to be, Supraworld is an easy game to enjoy.

Graphically, I love the aesthetics of the game. Not only are your characters stick people and somewhat 2D, but there are tons of familiar memorabilia scattered throughout the game. There are matchboxes, game cartridges, straws, and even playing cards. You'll see areas blocked off with popsicle sticks or paper weights and padlocks that remind you of high school. In fact, part of the appeal of the Supra games is that they use everyday items to create a whole new world to explore and climb. The nostalgia present throughout the game puts a big smile on my face, and the wit of the game developers gets me every time.

Final Thoughts

Supraworld is sure to rank highly on my list of favorite games when it fully launches just because it's so much fun. The game breaks the fourth wall at times and forces players to think logically about the problems presented to them. Although, I had to laugh when I came across an area that was blocked off with a sign saying "Not Available in Early Access", but you could see some of the area behind it. So, Supraworld is going to have a lot more to experience once it releases in full. Honestly, I can't wait. I spent many hours in Supraland, and I suspect that I will do the same with Supraworld.

We'll go over the game in more detail when the game fully launches, but for now Supraworld is quite promising!
