  • Minos - PC (Steam) Review

The tower defense genre is one that doesn't tend to innovate much with static maps, various traps, and its simple to grasp gameplay loops. At least, that is until Minos with a mighty laugh to prove you wrong.

  • Decollate Decoration - PS5 Review

Hello everyone and welcome to a new KEMCO title! But wait a moment, this one is different to the retro JRPGs that you’re probably expecting when you hear KEMCO from me by this point. Instead what we have is a sort of point-and-click style visual novel! Something a little new and fresh coming out here!

  • John Carpenter's Toxic Commando - PC Review

Toxic Commando harkens back to video games years ago when they were fun and innovative while giving the player freedom to explore among the waves of enemies in a 4 player chaotic onslaught of combat and driving mechanics.

  • Dread Delusion - Xbox Series X|S Review

Today we’re looking at what has rapidly become an absolute favorite in the open-world RPG genre for me. An interesting story, memorable NPCs, stunning visuals, and a setting absolutely dripping with flavor, Dread Delusion sets its tone immediately and sticks with it.

  • People of Note - PS5 Review

...I love music in general. After playing the People of Note demo, I knew I had to play the full game.

Valor of Man, by Legacy Forge and Numskull Games, is a turn-based roguelite RPG where you guide a party of four through ever increasing difficult situations. Achieving victory is never assured and the randomness of the roguelite nature will either be your best friend or your worst enemy.

Leviathan: Warships - PC Review

The idea behind Leviathan: Warships is an interesting one. I am a big fan of tactical games, and this one has some pretty good concepts from Paradox Interactive - a company that definitely knows its way around strategy titles.

Adam Dixon and the upcoming Magic 2014 - Interview

We got a great reaction from our article with upcoming information about both Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers as well as what we shared out about the actual 2014 core card game release. I have to say that the more I hear about the upcoming game, the more excited I get.

Announced for Steam - Super Splatters

So good news for fans of The Splatters - of which I am one. Don't believe me? I scored it pretty high in my review here, if you want to read about it.

Quick Gaming Thoughts on Xbox One

So like a good number of people, I was very curious to see how Microsoft would respond with their next generation console announcement. If you could say that the Wii U was the first shot of the upcoming console war and Sony's conference earlier this year was the second, then Microsoft may have been last - but also had the most time to prepare how they wanted to position their marketing pitch.

Metro: Last Light - PC Review

First, I want to thank everyone for the kind birthday wishes. Secondly, I hope you have a great holiday weekend if you get to celebrate it where you are. Lastly - I will be a bit light on posts over the next week or two while my dad is up visiting and with my extended Memorial Day Weekend. Hope you enjoy the review below, and take care!

Metro is a first-person shooter, but it is miles away from being another Battlefield or Call of Duty. If you played the first game in the series, Metro 2033, you got to experience an interesting premise and story, with good atmosphere but somewhat rough gaming mechanics. It was a bundle of good ideas that felt a little like loose ends that never really got connected.

It's that time of the year...

When I get to use my birthday as an excuse to take a day off of work (technically yesterday I took off - had to get my license renewed. Boy was that fun) and play some video games.

I am not going to lie - I kind of want this cake

Dead Space - Devolutionized - Gaming Thoughts

Just to kick this off - yes, I was making up a word there in the title. However, Devolution is a word, so I took some creative liberties with it. I feel that it is only fair, since I really did not care for the changes I saw in the latest release of Dead Space, either. I originally posted this over at Digitally Downloaded.

Dead Space 3 - PlayStation 3 Review

And onto the weekend! I hope you all have a great Friday, Saturday and Sunday - and I'll see you again come Monday with my wrap-up of the Dead Space series.

Dead Space 1 and 2 have been probably my favorite horror games of this console generation. Amnesia: The Dark Descent was a solid enough PC offering, and the Fatal Frame trilogy owned the PlayStation 2 era in my opinion, but this generation has lacked tense survival games.

Dead Space 2 - PlayStation 3 Review

I am just going to start off by saying that Dead Space was awesome. I loved it, reviewed it to a great score, and recommended it to pretty much anyone who showed an interest in it. Then I got around to playing Dead Space Extraction on the Wii. Very different kind of animal, being an on-rails shooter, but it was also a lot of fun.

Dead Space - iPad Review

I will spread out the posts a bit this week and next while trying to ramp up some new content. In the meantime, the Dead Space theme continues with the iPad version of the game.

The name confused me at first. Was this the original Dead Space remastered for the iPad? Without a sub-name added to the title, I was unsure when it first came out. That being said, I loved the original Dead Space enough to give this a go and see what it was all about.

Dead Space Extraction - Wii Review

In case you had not guessed by the background image, we are going to be talking some Dead Space for the next couple of weeks.

I really enjoyed the original Dead Space a lot, giving it a review score of 8.75 at the time. It was a game I picked up, kept meaning to play, but took a long time in getting around to it. Once I did though, I quickly found myself engrossed in the story and the game's dark atmosphere.

Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers - lots of announcements

I am a huge Magic fan. I play it every night with coworkers, my son and I have decks we play at home and I have purchased every release of Duels of the Planeswalkers, having tried it on PC, iPad, PS3 and 360. You could safely say I am familiar with the content.

Well now information has been  released on both the video game as well as the actual card game. Here goes (press release copied below):

Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers
In addition to Xbox LIVE® Arcade, Steam®, PlayStation® Network and iPad®, Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers will be available on Android™ tablet for the first time ever! With an easy-to-use tutorial, Magic 2014 is the best way for new players to learn how to play Magic, while also providing advanced game play modes and options to satisfy experienced players.
Magic 2014 builds on the success of previous games in the Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise and adds several new features:
-       Available for the first time on Android tablet
-       Sealed Play which allows players to open booster packs and build decks to play against the AI and other players
-       Engaging storyline that gives players the opportunity to join the Planeswalker Chandra Nalaar in a quest for revenge through challenging gameplay
-       New take on the popular Slivers creature type
-       10 Brand New Decks
-       15 New Encounters
-       10 New Puzzle Challenges
-       Platform-specific promotions that will include 6-card Booster Decks featuring the following promo cards:
o    Steam, iPad, Android tablet – Scavenging Ooze
o    Xbox – Bonescythe Sliver
o    PSN – Ogre Battledriver
-       Special Edition Release including the base game and exciting mix of additional content (Steam only)
-       Loyalty Offer for players who previously purchased Magic 2013 (Steam and Xbox only)
In addition, integration between Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers and the Magic 2014 - Core Set will provide Magic 2014 players with a first look at more than 50 cards from the Magic 2014 – Core Set releasing later this summer.  Five cards from Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers will also be appearing as foil face cards in the Magic 2014 Intro Packs including Liliana’s Reaver, Garruk’s Horde, Chandra’s Phoenix, Jace’s Mindseeker, and Ajani’s Chosen.

The addition of Sealed Play will allow players to open booster packs and build decks to play against the AI and other players. Each sealed pool is comprised of 84 cards, mimicking paper TCG booster packs. The PvE experience includes a six-deck ladder where players take on mono-colored Sealed decks each corresponding with a particular Planeswalker, and finally facing a ‘boss’ Sealed deck.
Another feature debuting in Magic 2014 is a new take on the popular Slivers creature type. A fan-favorite, new playable Slivers in Magic 2014 decks will include the following:
− Sliver Construct
− Predatory Sliver
− Groundshaker Sliver
− Megantic Sliver
− Blur Sliver
− Striking Sliver
− Thorncaster Sliver
− Battle Sliver
− Sentinel Sliver
− Bonescythe Sliver
In addition, Hive Stirrings, a sorcery that creates Sliver tokens, will also be included in Magic 2014.

And for fans of the card game itself:

Magic 2014 - Core Set
The Magic 2014 - Core Set will provide players with a wider Magic experience including new cards, face-to-face gameplay and unlimited deck building opportunities. The Magic 2014 - Core Set is an exciting blend of brand new cards and returning fan-favorites, and will be available at participating Wizards Play Network (WPN) hobby game stores worldwide this summer. To find a WPN location near you, visit: Wizards.com/locator.

The Magic 2014 - Core Set will feature:
-       249 Cards
-       Planeswalkers – Ajani, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, Garruk
-       Slivers creature types
-       In-store events throughout the summer including Pre-release, Friday Night Magic and Game Day

Lots to look forward to for Magic fans. Are you looking forward to the new card sets and video game? Personally I think the sealed deck style of game sounds very cool, and I remember the Slivers from back around the Tempest releases (they played off of one another as well as any 'type' of card in the Magic series in my opinion) very fondly.

The Unfinished Swan - PSN Review

At a glance, The Unfinished Swan struck me as resembling another title that came out of nowhere a few years ago, Limbo. The parallels are obvious when you first glace at the games, given that both feature the player in the role of a silent young boy in a world made up of basically blacks and whites. I absolutely loved Limbo, and while I had no misconceptions that the two games were really all that alike, I was still curious about The Unfinished Swan.

Guild Wars 2 - PC Review

When I played the first Guild Wars, I really did not know what to think. I won it in a contest and gave it a shot - but it never really resonated with me the way World of Warcraft did.

Inferno Pool - PS3 Review

I really like pool. I stink at it in real life, but I enjoy it all the same. I have been playing a lot of different versions of pool online in places like Yahoo! Games over the years, and while the product is fairly simple, it is generally entertaining.
