Valiant Hearts: Art & Emotion

Ubisoft has had some pretty solid releases lately and I have some high hopes for Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which we took a look at about a week ago. Now they have released a new video and I wanted to share it out with all of you.

Ghostlight lets us take a peek at the upcoming Elminage Gothic

We enjoyed the title Elminage Original on PSP when it released, reviewing the title favorably for its old school dungeon crawling style. Ghostlight has announced that they will be bringing the classic Japanese dungeon crawler, Elminage Gothic, to PC.  Elminage Gothic, originally known as Elminage Gothic: Ulm Zakir to Yami no Gishik, is the fourth entry in Starfish SD’s popular Elminage series of dungeon crawlers, originally released in Japan for PSP in 2012 and on 3DS in 2013.

Star Fox 64 3D - 3DS Review

This was a title I was hesitant to buy new right after getting my Nintendo 3DS for Christmas a couple of years ago, because while I had enjoyed the original title quite a bit several years ago when it first came out, I also recalled that the game was incredibly short. If this had been a remastering of Star Fox, providing a lot of new content, that would have made me less weary, but essentially the single player mode was untouched. There were a few new modes however, so when I had a chance to pick this up on the cheap, I went for it.

I love RPG Maker. I have sunk a ridiculous amount of time into that series over the years personally, so when I see that it is being offered up on Steam for the weekend? I can't help but want to point people toward it.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood - PC Review

Anyone who’s ever had a sibling knows that regardless of how well you get along, or how well they say that they get along, there will always be those moments in time in which you wanted to either throttle them or make them disappear for a while. Max, who is in this very situation, came home one day to find his younger brother Felix messing up his stuff and breaking his toys. Annoyed as he was, Max “Giggled” (yes, that is the search engine he used on the computer) a way to make his brother disappear and not thinking about the results, recites a spell found on the internet. Shortly after, Felix is snatched into another world by a giant fist and dragged away. Instantly regretting this action, Max jumps in after them starting the adventure.

The Walking Dead: Season 2 - Episode 3: In Harm's Way - Xbox 360 Review

The first two episodes of The Walking Dead Season 2 escalated the tension by building up threat of Carver and the mystery of what happened between him and Clementine’s new survivor pals.  As she meets the group and tries to earn their trust, she keeps hearing about Carver and how awful it will be when he finds them and then if he catches up to them.  I felt that one of the biggest highlights in Episode 2 is a tense showdown when Clementine first meets with Carver.

Swords & Soldiers HD - Wii U Review

It is really hard to believe that it has been about five years now since Swords & Soldiers first debuted on the Nintendo Wii. The timing of its updated release for the Wii U is no doubt linked to the upcoming sequel Swords & Soldiers II. The real question is if this updated version of the charming RTS game is still worth a play on the Wii U or not.

Bound by Flame - PlayStation 4 Review

Bound by Flame is an action RPG that tells the story of a mercenary who is possessed by a fire demon during a war against an undead army. The story itself does not feel like anything new, and truth be told much of Bound by Flame can be found in other similar action RPG titles as well. All of that being said, Bound by Flame is a solid offering that gets more right than it gets wrong and delivers good action and a story with consequences for the decisions you make.

Chronology - PC Review

From the very first moment I heard Chronology, I was in love with the music. It was late at night, I had just finished installing the game, was unaware my volume was up quite so high… My wife glances over at my computer and I expect a request to turn it down for sure, except I am instead met with a “That’s really pretty. What is that?”.

Supreme Ruler 1936 - PC Review

Note: This review has been updated at the bottom with some new information and a revised score based on developer feedback having been taken to heart and implemented in quick fashion.

Dear BattleGoat Studios, I both hate you and love you for making this title.

Supreme Ruler 1936 is a real-time strategy war game that has a learning curve that is going to murder you if you happen to be a newcomer to the Supreme Ruler line of games. This is an insanely nuanced title that rewards greatly for micromanagement of not only units and resources, but also a SimCity-esque level of determining which sections of your country are going to get your Simoleons.

Watch Dogs - PS4 Review

Watch dogs was a game that had me incredibly excited since the moment I first saw it at E3 almost a year ago. It looked amazing: a game with a heavy emphasis on hacking, stealth, and open worded gameplay? How could I not be excited? It set the bar incredibly high, with a lot of promise - especially for those of us looking to play it on a PC or a next generation console. Would it be able to deliver? That was the question I found myself asking in recent weeks.

Watch Dogs - Xbox One Review

I thought I had been vigilant about my initial scans of the facility. Hacking between cameras to tag the guards and find a quick route to the terminal. Carefully sneaking around in cover, I subdued most guards with my baton, but had to pull off a few quick suppressed pistol shots to keep from raising an alarm. Having pulled the information I needed from the terminal, I turned to high tail it out of there, only to find one guard that I hadn’t accounted for. He signals for backup as I hop over a fence to find the SUV I had arrived in. My radar shows three enemy vehicles fast approaching as I speed down a busy road. With the enemy on my tail, I race through an intersection, and hack the traffic lights so that it becomes a four-way green light. One pursuer can’t react in time, and veers into oncoming traffic. Two left, and a bridge is up ahead. Hacking the bridge, it starts to raise and I launch over the river below. Lucky for me, my pursuers weren’t feeling as brave as I, and slam on their brakes. I’m home free.

Stranded - PC Review

I had not heard much of anything about the point-and-click adventure that is Stranded. Relatively low key, developed by an indie developer, and recently released via Steam for the PC, Stranded is like no other game out there. Thinking back, my first experience with the basic 'adventure' game would likely be Maniac Mansion, a lovable adventure classic for the Nintendo Entertainment System, though the first real introduction to the Point-and-Click adventure genre would be Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, followed shortly thereafter by Full Throttle.

Fishdom H2O:Hidden Odyssey - Nintendo 3DS Review

I have not seen many 'find the hidden object' games of late, though touch interface certainly seems like a natural destination for titles such as Fishdom H2O: Hidden Odyssey. You take on the role of Jennifer, a marine biologist who is attempting to win an award for the best aquarium. She dives into the sea to find all sorts of hidden items amidst a somewhat cluttered environment.

Bubble Pop World - 3DS Review

Bubble Pop World tries to make use of the 3DS technology in a way no one else really has yet. That is a good thing, as it allows this title to stand out a bit more than it otherwise might have. It gives the game a sense of novelty and even serves as something of a technical demonstration of what the 3DS can do when using AR.

By the end of the second episode of the latest season of Telltale Games’s The Walking Dead, the tension is high and depending on your choices, this season’s body count starts to mount.  The game picks up right where Episode 1 left off and you are immediately faced with the consequences of the decision you made concerning who to help.

The Walking Dead: Season 2 - Episode 1: All That Remains - Xbox 360 Review

Winner of over 90 different Game of the Year awards, the first season of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead was almost universally acclaimed for its rich characters, engaging plot, and an art style that immediately connected it to the original comic series.  Not only that, the general public seemed to respond to it as well, making it a bona fide success for the episodic delivery model.  Critically acclaimed AND popular with the masses?  No surprise then that Season 2 is upon us.  Can it live up to the expectations set by the first game?  Based on the first episode, it is off to a good start.

Panzer Tactics HD - PC Review

My first foray into the bona fide Turn Based Strategy realm, outside of tabletop gaming, Chess and Checkers, would be X-COM: UFO Defense back in the early 90's and I immediately fell in love with the genre. The level of strategic warfare, resource management, and needing to maintain a discerning eye over both the immediate battle and the overall campaign was something new and exciting and allowed any would-be armchair commander to really shine. Since then I have taken more to the Science Fiction realm of 4X strategy as well as being a huge fan of X-COM: Enemy Unknown, though when historical or alternate history turn-based strategy games like Panzer Tactics and the Total War games were released they certainly piqued my interest.

Transistor - PlayStation 4 Review

Supergiant Games took a lot of people by surprise with Bastion, an RPG with a warm voice and plenty of gameplay that really appealed to a large audience of gamers. Transistor was a title that garnered a lot of interest back during Sony's E3 last year, but as such it carries with it some pretty substantial expectations. For the most part, Transistor does succeed in meeting most, if not all of them.

R-Type Dimenions - PS3 Review

Once more, the Bydo threaten the earth and it is your task, nay, duty, to pilot the R-9a/c to beat back the assault and then take the fight to the enemy, only stopping once peace has been seized, by force if need be. For those of you that have no clue what I refer to, R-Type Dimensions is a remake of R-Type 1 and 2, just as you remember them from the arcade or, in my case, from the Game Boy.

Color Zen - Wii U Review

Color Zen is a different sort of puzzle game. It has its roots in the mobile platform, and those simplistic visuals still carry over to the Nintendo Wii U's version of the downloadable title as well. No scoring, no game over, just trial and error until you complete a level and move onto the next one. The end result? A rare gaming experience that is more soothing than frustrating and an excellent diversion from the rest of your day.

Age of Mythology: Extended Edition - PC Review

Real Time Strategy games have always been a great little power trip, even for those as strategically inept as I. Commanding armies of fantastical orcs and humans, lead by their mighty hero units in Warcraft. Constructing technologically advanced robots and amassing an army on a massive scale in Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. Leading your men against untold galactic horrors in Warhammer 40,000. Or pushing your fledgling group of gatherers to thrive and prosper through history in Age of Empires. Ensemble Studios’ Age of Mythology picks up the core mechanics of the Age of Empires series, and throws in a healthy dose of mythical intrigue to create a unique and enjoyable experience. Now, nearly 12 years later, the updated Age of Empires: Extended Edition has been released. But is it worth playing for those that have fond memories of the original, or those that are more used to modern RTS games?

Bound by Flame - Xbox 360 Review

When I first heard about Bound By Flame some months ago I was a bit taken aback be the relative lack of readily available information on the game. From the first screenshots I was hooked and wanted more and Bound By Flame was easily one of my most anticipated titles of 2014. As more information was released, from gameplay videos to featurettes on the composition of the music I couldn't wait and was so eagerly looking forward to Bound By Flame that when it came across my desk I was literally jumping for joy as the wait was finally over...

Tango Fiest attempts to spark 80's movie action nolstalgia

Thunder Wolves was one such title, in that it reminded me of older, over-the-top 80's action movies.

LEGO The Hobbit - Xbox One Review

As a child, building toys such as Erector Sets, K’NEX, and LEGO would keep me entertained for hours as I found new ways to use the pieces to bring my ideas to life. While growing older, that fascination moved away from the physical world and into a digital one, where video games would fill that same role. Despite that transition, I had never played any of the long line of LEGO games that have been released over the last few years. The release of LEGO: The Hobbit finally broke that seal, as it combined my love of the toy itself, and fond memories of growing up reading J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series with my dad. But does the game do an effective job of combining these elements into an enjoyable package?

Project Temporality - PC Review

Puzzle games are hit or miss for me; they really need to bring something new to the table to really draw me in. Project Temporality tries to do exactly that by thrusting you into the role of Subject Eighty-Seven, a test subject for allowing humans to turn back time but with an added twist thrown in; you can clone yourself while you are rewinding time. Using this ability, you will work your way through a station full of traps, locked doors, and other obstacle, turning back time and cloning yourself in order to complete objectives, disable lasers, or open doors.

However, when you take a step back and look at the staggering amount of content Tecmo Keoi has provided, it is easy to consider this latest iteration in the series a good deal.
