Deception IV: Blood Ties - PS3 Review

I had little experience with the Deception series of games even though they first launched back in 1996 so when I sat down with Deception IV: Blood Ties I came in with a blank slate. After spending my time playing as Laegrinna who is the Devil's "daughter", I can only admit that I have been seriously missing out over the last two decades. I am normally not a big fan of puzzle games, so there is a bit of trepidation whenever I receive one and now, after playing Deception I have to say this: if every puzzle game was as funny, brutal and sadistic as this, I would be a convert.

Bravely Default - Nintendo 3DS Review

Bravely Default is one of those games that works on several different levels for me. At a glance it is the usual JRPG title with turn-based attacks, grinding for experience and a familiar story where strangers come together for the protection of the world. It all sounds very safe, very familiar and that can be a good or a bad thing depending on your preferences.

Tetris Axis - Nintendo 3DS Review

This is not a game that in and of itself needs a lot of description. The basic premise to Tetris is pretty well-known by now, but essentially it is a puzzle game in which you are trying to fill rows with descending blocks. When you do, the rows vanish, giving you more breathing room. Fail to fill the rows completely, and your misshapen blocks tend to pile up on one another until they reach the top of the screen and your game ends.

Outland - PS3 Review

Outland is a game that became very popular on the PlayStation Network when it first released, scoring quite a few positive reviews. The premise is fairly simple, with action and platforming making up the majority of your tasks.

Skydive: Proximity Flight - Xbox 360 Review

Skydive: Proximity flight is all about the speed. It is focused around diving out of a high flying hot air balloon or off of an incredibly high mountain to fuel the adrenaline-filled ride that is base jumping. The objective first and foremost is speed, but just going fast would not be enough - and that is where the real challenge comes into play.

Constant C - Xbox 360 Review

The story behind Constant C would be interesting to both science fiction fans as well as straight up puzzle fans, as it has to do with humankind's experimentation with time travel. Unfortunately for our sake however, it appears that our experiments have broken something when it comes to Time itself and everything is now stuck in a timeless state. You star as Rescue Robot, who is booted up and guided along by a machine named "A.I."

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z - PC Review

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is not the Ninja Gaiden game you have grown used to over the last few years. It uses an anime style of art and over-the-top irreverent humor to tell the tale of not Ryu, but a different, far more crass ninja named Yaiba. Yaiba is a foul-mouthed protagonist with a mechanical arm and a tendency for flare and destruction over stealth and subtlety.

A new look for spring

It is finally starting to look and feel just a bit like spring around these parts. To celebrate that, plus the impending weekend, we thought it was time to show off the new look of Chalgyr's Game Room. It is the same site as always, just with what we hope is a cleaner look and a much more organized set of options along the top.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight - PS3 Review

The Witch and the Hundred Knight attempts to do a lot of different things, and while a few of the mechanics miss their mark, the overall package of this RPG title succeeds by taking several successful chances along the way.

Memorable Music in Gaming #2

I am going to dub this list of Memorable Music in Gaming the Final Fantasy X edition, as the HD remaster of X and X-2 released yesterday. This is how I intend to spend my entire weekend, in case anyone was harboring any doubts on the matter.

Titanfall - Xbox One Review

The next few months are going to be huge for this latest wave of consoles. Companies like Ubisoft argued time and again that the last console generation lasted years too long, and that it stifled the creative ability of development studios. To a lot of people, this sounded like a developer pinning excuses for under performing titles on the hardware and not themselves. After an initial wave of somewhat decent if uninspiring release titles, developers are getting their chance to put their money where their mouths were.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 - Xbox 360 Review

I have long been a huge fan of the Castlevania series, dating back to when I was jumping over maddeningly quick Medusa heads and whipping iconic horror monsters to death. The series has evolved over the years, with the RPG elements found in Simon's Quest and masterpiece titles like Symphony of the Night. If you hate spoilers and have not yet played the first Lords of Shadow game, you may want to stop reading here. There are no spoilers for this title, but for how the first game ended just below.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - PS3 Review

I remember when Marvel vs Capcom 3 first came out - I snatched it up pretty quickly and reviewed it to a very positive score here. It took forever for the follow-up to Marvel vs Capcom 2 to come out, but it did not take Capcom very long to come up with a newer iteration of part three. This is just a quick look at the overall game, since there is little need to break down the overall technical merits a second time.

Crysis - Xbox 360 Review

Today's review comes courtesy of a new contributor to the site, Robert! We will be seeing more from him soon!

Set in the future, Crysis takes place on a small island primarily controlled by the KPA (North Korean military), where you control 'Nomad' a member of a U.S. Special Forces team (Raptor Team) that uses a newly developed armor called a Nanosuit (it uses nanotechnology to do neat things like optical cloaking, armor hardening, or exponentially increasing your speed and strength).

Magus - PS 3 Review

Aksys has brought over some of my favorite titles over the last few years, such as Record of Agarest War and Record of Agarest War Zero, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear and more. Magus sells itself as an action RPG, but it feels almost more like a shooter with some RPG elements. If you are looking for turn-based action, there is none to be found here.
