Looking back at my last month in gaming

I finally just knocked out a bunch of titles that had been backing up on me. Not a bunch of heavy RPGs - though I have now started a couple of those as well. Still, probably my 'busiest' gaming month in some time. I am hoping to crank out a few more of these over the next couple of months.

I was posting on a friend's site (Coffee With Games) and realized my played list may be of interest to people, and even if not - was long enough to merit its own post today. I was hoping to nab Tomb Raider, but a recent dead-and-dying-car incident has me being funds cautious again for a bit.

Vita:
- Zen Pinball 2
- Plants Vs Zombies (beat it)
- Persona 4 (just barely)
- Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (beat it)
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma
- Lunar (finally beat it)

PS3:
- Pure Chess
- Zen Pinball 2
- Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (this one's gonna take awhile)
- Outland
- Dead or Alive 5 (beat most of the modes)
- Journey
- Black Ops II (prestiged, got about halfway through another prestige)
- Super Street Fighter IV Arcade (beat it several times with about 1/3 of the characters)

Xbox 360:
- Assassin's Creed III (beat 9t)
- Alien Hominid
- Castle Crashers (beat it)
- Halo: Anniversary (beat it)

Nintendo 3DS
- Naruto Powerful Shippuden (beat it)
- Fire Emblem (beat it)

Quite a few mobile games (Angry Birds Star Wars, Guardian Cross, Rage of Bahamut, Marvel: War of Heroes, Need for Speed)

I think the only Wii game I played was a bit of Mario Kart and Smash Brothers with the kid, and I logged a lot of levels on Guild Wars 2 on my PC as well. Bunch of smaller things like Black Tiger on the Capcom Arcade Cabinet or Jetpack Joyride out in the living room... I know you saw me comment on this on my site - but it felt like this last month was a very 'sleep is optional' month for me :)

What have you been playing of late?

  1. I started Real Racing 3, but I found the in-app purchases quite ridiculous. It looks great on iPad though!

I've also continued progress in GTA III. I've only got around 10 missions or so left before I've completed it all.

Yeah, I've forgotten to play many games lately!

  2. "...but a recent dead-and-dying-car incident has me being funds cautious..."

Murphy, he loves cars for some reason. Loves them. Every time I have tried to run him over with mine though, he escapes.

In January, my battery was completely dead. No lights. No ignition dinging sound. Nothing. So, the next day I walked out to go to the store and get a battery to change it, FLAT TIRE!? So weird...if it's not one thing, it's another.

So far this month, it's just been Black Ops II and some of Bean 1's LeapFrog games. I think Assassin's Creed III is up next though.

  3. "Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (this one's gonna take awhile)"

I hear that. I just started playing it this past Sunday, and I already know it's pretty much going to be like trying to tame a Kraken. But if it's anything like Xenoblade Chronicles -- itself a game that took me a year of off-and-on playing to clear -- I know it'll be amazing at the end of the day. Or month. Or year.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, I finished Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance a few days ago. People have been noting (and wary of) its meager length for a while now, but I will gladly admit that it's one of the most AMAZING experiences I've had with video games in a while. Incidentally, there's some discussion about memes in the game, and by the looks of things on YouTube the game is primed to spawn plenty of its own.

But then again, that's to be expected of the internet.

  4. I want to get my mitts on Revengeance at some point - I've heard almost nothing but good things about it (except for the relatively short playthrough). I am really enjoying Ni no Kuni - it's been a lot of fun, but I can see where I will wind up sinking a ton of time into it since I love doing side missions and such in games.

    Thanks for dropping by!

  5. Yeah, my car made me angry. Pretty much kills my PS4 fund. Luckily I had enough in savings that I can pick something up for a couple of grnd and hope it gets me by for a couple of years. I have one fairly decent 2010 Ford Fusion, but I've got like 2 1/2 years left to pay on that before I go taking on another car loan. :P

Cracked the head gasket on my other car, which was a 95 Cavalier. It's time had probably come and gone a couple of years ago. Still, an incredible pisser. As to your story? The cars knooooow man. My favorite bad car story happened to me like 15 years ago. I got a newere car, pulled it into my driveway. I went to back out my older car I had been driving and it went about 5 feet, seized horribly and never ran again. It's like the bugger knew it was getting replaced that afternoon.

    Thanks for the comment!

  6. I have heard that about Real Racing 3 - that it's a good game but the micro-transaction purchase system borders on obscenely intrusive.

GTA - a series I've always appreciated on a technical level, but just NEVER got into any of the games. I've tried three of them now, put a few hours into each, they just never hook me for some reason.

    Glad you dropped in!

  7. Sorry to hear about the car and know what you mean. I think our newest one (an 08) will be paid off later this year and we're trying to keep it to one car payment at a time. My game fund stays pretty low by design, but with so many good 3DS titles hitting soon it's hard to decide.

Anyway, here's some cross-post from coffee. Am probably 25% on Retro City Rampage and will most likely finish it this month.

    3DS:

    - Gunman Clive
    - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
    - The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords
    - Professor Layton and the Curious Village
    - dementium ii
    - Mutant Mudds

    Wii:

    - super mario bros
    - super mario bros 2
    - bonk's adventure (beat)
    - wii ski
    - rayman origins
    - Retro City Rampage
    - MegaMan 9
    - Nickelodean Dance
    - Amazon Video

  8. I have been hearing about Gunman Clive quite a bit lately. Dementium II I am not famliar with - what's that one about and do you like it? Thanks for dropping by!

  9. Clive is a great little platformer and the art style will remind you of a certain 80's music video that us old farts should remember.

For Dementium II I haven't gotten far, but it's basically a survival horror FPS for the DS. It has the mental health / brain surgery / asylum theme and some wild stuff happening.

The controls are rough for me to get used to where you're attacking with a trigger, dpad for movement and the stylus for direction/aiming.

Even though the graphics are DS quality it's still pretty good. Overall I'd say the sound effects really set the mood and it ends up being kind of creepy, especially with earphones. Some suggest it's a somewhat reminiscent to the shutter island movie.

I got it used for $10 at BestBuy which seemed like a good deal. Looking forward to playing more.

  10. That DS title sounds kind of cool - but I'm a big fan of horror games and movies. :) I may have to look that one up at some point. Not that I need yet another title to be incomplete with myself... lol
