Street Fighter - Happy 25th Anniversary

I was not planning on getting a post out today.  I was going to let my Street Fighter IV review sit at the top of the mountain for an extra day before I did my next Street Fighter review tomorrow.  Then I stumbled onto something when I was surfing the web early this morning - but the original Street Fighter video game was released in the arcade on August 30th, 1987 - so happy 25th birthday Street Fighter!

Now, I did not play the original Street Fighter.  Street Fighter II was my introduction to the series in the arcade, though I have gone back and played the original on systems and remix compilations since. Still, twenty five years... that makes me feel a bit older today than I did when I woke up this morning.

Did any of you ever play this original version of the game or not?

If so, what did you think?  I have to say the timing is funny, given my recent Street Fighter series of posts.  Completely a coincidence but I'll take it as a sign from the Video Game gods that I've chosen my topic for the last week or so wisely.

  1. Haha, I reviewed this one recently too, I didn't even think about any anniversaries or anything! It's an interesting title for sure, and I liked the control method on the arcade version, but it's a bit ropey now huh? :P

  2. Yeah, it is - but wow, this just made me feel old. well, old-er. Funny that you too recently took a poke at it though. Just excellent timing I guess. :)

  3. I absolutely love the Street Fighter series, but I got into it with II, just like (most) everybody else.

Nope, II Turbo (?) I think was my first on the SNES.

Haha! I seriously thought you had this week of posts planned, as I saw this topic pop up earlier in the week in an article something like a "Look back" or something similar.

I was actually trolling the Nintendo Channel last night for a potential Sunday posts, and saw this one pop up here today. LOL, irony at its best. Making posts just out of the whim, and then it somehow gets connected in an awesome/weird way.

Thanks to Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 I was able to play the original SF. It was awful. Thankfully, Capcom made a sequel and I fell in love with SFII and the SF series in 1992.

  8. Yeah, the timing really couldn't have been better - even if it was by complete accident. Thanks for dropping in! :)
