Couple of quick thoughts tonight

One? I enjoyed the VGA's - there were some cool trailers shown. Most interesting? Mass Effect 3 for me, but Transformers and The Last of Us caught my eye too.

Also? After a few friends suggested I try it, I thought I'd go ahead and give DC Universe Online a try since it's free now. Can't say the process has been a smooth one so far. For starters, it's a 17 gig install. That took all afternoon to download and install. Intro cinematic was cool, and character creation wasn't bad - but then I made the mistake of trying to actually play.

Trying is the key term. I was #2,831 in the free queue. Good. Lord. 45 minutes later, I was #1,922. I gave up. We'll see if I have any more luck at a different day and time, but not a good first impression overall.

Interesting. A friend just last night(Friday) suggested I give it a try on the PS3, doubt it will happen though.

As for the VGA's, I didn't watch them (no cable), but will probably see the clips online later.

  2. Didn't watch the VGA's either. No time, plus last year's really soured my opinion.

That free queue doesn't sound good..

  3. VGAs? Sorry, I live in Australia.....

Still, seemed pretty ordinary, not like an E3 or anything.

One of my friends tried to download it. It took him more than 12 hours. And that's a while!

  4. Good morning all.

@Coffee - yeah, I haven't had any luck with the logins yet. The queue was over 2,500 again last night. I did notice that there is a tag for 'free queue'. Makes me wonder if I was a 'premium users' - someone who has spent $5 - if I would get some sort of priority bump up? Which really, wouldn't bug me much. A one-time $5 in and of itself isn't so bad. Still, not a good set of first impressions to get people to play

@Robert - what was it about last year's that soured your opinion?

@Strikester - Yeah, I'd guess it took me about 5 1/2 hours, but I have a REALLY fast connection. Too bad I can't play yet. :P

The VGA's were something I was not even planning to watch. I had forgotten all about them and then happened to see another friend Tweeting about them. I decided to stream it live on my laptop while playing Dragon Age.

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback!

  5. @Chalgyr: I'm trying to remember, but I think it had to do with production value, in-show advertising and how it was all about CODBlOPS last year.

I was also ticked that Limbo won the indie award over SuperMeatBoy, but that didn't have anything to do with it. (though I do have tremendous appreciation for limbo now)

  6. LOL - I'd have to say - I preferred Limbo myself. ;) But no, I do understand, and in some ways it did feel like a big ad. Not something I probably would have gone out of my way to watch, but it was fun seeing the previews. Like I said - I just had it streaming on my laptop as I played Dragon Age: Origins hehe
