PSN up and running

Well, I finally got a chance to try and get my account squared away on it. The process was actually pretty simple - the toughest part for me was figuring out which PS3 (I have 2 of them) we originally created the account on. I was 4 of 5.

When we bought our first PS3, my wife and I - and I thought my son - had created our PS3 accounts on this PS3 #1. I went to log in, it asked me to create a new password (seems like the rules are a bit more stringent now - not a bad thing. 8 characters, letters and numbers, can't be the same as your old password). When I tried to log in my son's account, it said the directions to reset his password were emailed to him.

Then we went and checked his email, and it was easy to do via that form as well.

We made our way to PS3 #2 and configured both of my daughter's accounts. It all pushed through nice and easy. Looks like basic functionality is there. I haven't had a chance to actually play on it yet, but I was able to sync my trophies, which bumped me up to level 5 (which, looking at my card on my blog here, those may not be synced anymore. Might have to redo that), I had a message from a friend, and another friend showed up online as actively playing DC Universe Online - so it appears just about everything but the Store seems to be kicking along now (if you try to access the store, you get a message about it being under maintenance).

We're doing a bit of spring cleaning today, but already my son's saying he's going to play some Black Ops online, and my youngest is going to play Little Big Planet (my oldest couldn't care less - she plays video games about twice a month).

IGN had an interesting article asking people what the first thing they would do was going to be. Some of the answers ranged from predictable:

- Play Brink
- Play Portal 2
- Play Black Ops

To slightly less predictable:

- play my single-player games I fell in love with again during the outtage
- sync my trophies and watch my level (hopefully) rise up a few times

To ones that made me grin:

- change my PSN credit card info
- plug my ps3 back in

Me? I'll likely try to get some rounds of Mortal Kombat in later and just make a quick blog post in the next day or two about my online impressions since I didn't get to include that in my original article.

  1. The world can start living again. :) Naturally you get the itch for online play when the network is down.

"- plug my ps3 back in"

    LOL, that's good.

I'm curious, how did the 2 PS3's come about? So much gameplay required by everyone in the house or did it fit another need?

It's probably best that I just have a Wii as it helps to keep my time and wallet in-check.

  2. @Games - I concur - hooray. :)

@Rober I think it's the whole: you don't have it, so naturally you want it (the network).

Funny you ask about the 2nd PS3 - I was *this close* to explaining it in my post but was like: Nah, no one would care - lol.

Well, a couple of things factored in.

    a) my buddy at work bought his PS3 the same weekend I did, but most of our friends are on Xbox 360 (including him). He just wasn't getting much use out of the ps3.

    b) we were playing a lot of blurays as our collection grew, and while we had the ps3 out in the living room, we were considering getting a bluray for the bedroom since my wife and I have a tendency to watch tv late at night

    c) my wife actually then broke her tailbone sledding w/ the kids right about this time, and she had just discovered streaming Netflix.

So all of this culminated within about the same 2 weeks, and my buddy at work decided he wanted to sell his ps3 really cheap, so I offered to buy it since my wife was ordered bedridden for like a month. :P

I actually have a 2nd 360 too, but that's because my original had RRoD and it was outside of the warranty. I bought a new one and was going to let a friend take a crack at fixing it, but that was right when Microsoft extended the RRoD warranty, so I got it fixed free and already had the new one. So the fixed one's offline and in my computer room.

    Only 1 Wii. :P

  3. Glad I asked, that was quite a series of events. (and I cringed about her tailbone breaking!!) For a good deal I probably would have done the same even though bluray and netflix aren't a priority for us.

So that second xbox is just a cold spare in case of emergency? :)

It's funny, when you mentioned spring cleaning I thought: oh yeah, people in other areas of the country have real seasons... Was out myself cleaning gutters, pruning dozens of plants and relocating a snake. Relaxing sunday as usual.

  4. @Robert - LOL, yeah, lots of spring cleaning this weekend, and allergies to boot. I normally don't suffer from them, but this year has stunk so far. Got about 1 more solid weekend of cleaning ahead of us and the house should be better for it.

The tailbone... yeah, rough stuff. She was sledding with the kids while I was at work, and just got a running start, hopped on the sled and just landed wrong. My wife's guess is there was a chunk of ice or something under it (it was one of those hard plastic circular sleds) and she said as soon as her bottom landed on it, she knew something was wrong. :( Made for a long couple of months.

The 360 actually does get used, but none of my games I play on it get uploaded online and added to my gamerscore. Basically our back Den is half-craft room for my wife, and the other half has my computer desk w/ 2 monitors, and a spare, older widescreen tv that I have the 'extra' 360 hooked up to. I sometimes bring my ps3 back there too, but while the PS3 and Wii have wireless, 360 doesn't.
